My son was given a pirhana today and I set up the tank last night. I was wondering if anyone had advise on taking care of this fish it is only one and we wont be adding any fish. Also I am looking for a top to a 30 gallon hexagon tank does anyone know where to find one in Lansing Illinois? Also do we need a heater?

hi, i have a few red belly pirhanas and you will need a heater and have the water to about 80 degrees they like it warm

as far as gettin a top for it id try terrys Aquariums on ridge road on the left side few blocks from beggars

Hey I am from schaumburg and now live in NC where i can not have these guys anymore, it stinks. They are very easy to take care of if you have the basics you will need a heater, POWER filter, air bubbler and attention. 1 fish is even eaiser to care for i usually and 4 to 8 of them in 100 gallon tanks but they started as babbies in a 45 gallon. if it is a baby just use brine shrimp just don't overfeed, i was able to feed mine goldfish and if you don't starve them you can leave a few in the tank and they will it when they want it is when you starve them that they might over eat also i kept mine feed well and introduced a big wall sucker when they were small and they left him alone. these are really pretty fish when they get older and as a kid kind of fun to see him eat. just watch the tank, clean it often try to have as little waste as possbale waste or dead fish or to much brine will turn toxic and build up bacteria in the water so vacumm often
