Last night after I got my power back, I noticed all the fish were stressed. This morning they were still alive, but wouldn't eat. This afternoon, they pacus were floating upside down, but still breathing. Later I noticed all the fish were dead. I don't know what happened, but it is a disappointment as I watched them grow from a small fry.

I'm sorry to hear about your fish. That's just about the way I lost my Black Pacu years ago. The power went off during an ice storm. At least for my Black the water temperature dropped so that he went gently. The problem is when you lost power they were starved for air. When they were starved for air they started to breath rapidly to get oxygen. The rapid breathing does damage to their gills, so that when the power came back on and the pumps started again they still weren't processing the water through the gills properly to get oxygen. About the only thing that you can do when the power goes out like that is to take the tank top off and continually stir the water. Stirring the water will break the surface tension of the water and allow it to pull oxygen in. Also there are battery operated pumps available. The battery pumps I don't think will give you the same amount of airflow but every little bit helps. Again I'm sorry to hear about your fish. I know how hard it is when you raised them from small.
