Hi, im new to this forum and also a newbie.

I have 2 lionheads (about 4 inches in length each)on 1 side of the tank separated by a divider from 1 flowerhorn (FH)(6 inches length). They have shared the tank ( a 4footer) for abt 3 months.

The FH managed to slip through the divider (after cleaning the tank, i didn't put the divider back firmly enough-my mistake..)

The FH & the 2 goldfishes were together for about 5 minutes. Long enough for the FH to take small nibbles at them. Casualty detail: some small parts of the tails ends were bitten off (looks like small chipped marks) and some parts of the side body's scales have been bitten/dropped off.

The goldfishes seem a bit stressed but otherwise are now swimming and eating nearly normally. The LFS suggested that i add some salt but im not so sure. salt on a wound?

Is there anything i can do to:
1) minimise the risk of infection setting in
2) help the re-growth of the injured parts as much as possible. Or r they going to be "deformed" like this forever.

Thanks

Hi,
I have always found that "Melafix" will cover all of that. Just make sure you follow directions carfully, do small water changes every day while treating. Your fish will be back to normal in no time.

Hi gr8fuljames

Thanks for the info. However maybe because i'm in Malaysia (Asia), i can't find the brand (melafix) in the LFS. what is its content? Then, maybe i can find an alternative brand.
