Hello all
The guy at the pet store gave me a red bellied pacu today because I buy so much stuff offf of him and I was wondering if any of you have any advice on these fish.

Any help would be appreciated

Don't let the guy at the pet store kid you. He probably gave you the Pacu knowing that you'll have to buy a bigger tank from him to house it in. They're a great fish though. They're vegeterian. They'll eat peas, zuchinni, romain lettuce, spinach and such. They love grapes. DO NOT feed them iceberg lettuce, they don't process it well.

you can but it is really good to feed them vegies and your gonna have to get a big tank for it

Not just a big tank, A HUGE TANK. These fish get to 2-3 feet!

yea i shoulda said huge my 18" pacu in a few months will be able to touch bolth peices of glass at the same time in the 290 gallon!

kc5gvn: I got some grapes for it today. Tonight when I sit down to watch tv Ill throw one it there and see what happens.
Just one question. I got white grapes dont the juice from them screw with your water quality??

Oooops! I probably should have specified on the grapes. I've never used the white grapes so I don't know if they will eat those or not. I used the seedless red grapes. As far as the water quality, you don't want to give them a steady diet of grapes, more or less a treat. On that basis your weekly water changes should take care of the juice from the grapes. More than that you would need to do more frequent water changes. You can try the white grapes and if he doesn't like them at least you have a nice snack while you watch TV. Have fun with your Pacu, they are in my opinion the most trainable fish I have run across.

Well he wont eat the white grapes but thats cool cause me and my daughter both like them. lol Ill get some of the red ones next time I go to the store and thanks alot for the help.
