I've had my 29 gal. tank set up since the end of April. I have 4 zebra danios, 3 balas, 2 irr. sharks, 1 red tail shark, and 1 pictus catfish. They all get along quite well. My question is about the color of the water in my tank. The water has a brownish tint to it. I did have a slight problem with brown algae, but I got that pretty well cleared up. I have a lava rock and driftwood in there. I was told that they could be the cause of the colored water. Is this the case? Also, recently there seems to be this fuzzy hair-like stuff on the driftwood...is this also a type of algae? IP: Logged |

isnt that alot of fish for a 29 gal? If your water is brown or there is brown stuff growing on the ornaments, rocks, gravel, plants, and other objects in your fish's home, then the water contains too much dissolved fish waste. You should immediately begin to change some water in your fish's home every day until the brown stuff is gone. change 20% of the water once each day every day until the brown is gone, then change 20% of the water twice a week. Don't change more than 20% of the water in one day IP: Logged |

I do water changes normally like I should, vacuum the gravel, make sure it's all clean. There isn't anything brown growing, there was algae but it's gone now and has been for a few weeks. The stuff on the driftwood isn't brown. It's kinda like a white hair-type fuzzy stuff. As for too many fish, they're all small at the moment. I'm going to be moving from my current residence soon and when I get settle in the new place I plan on buying a big tank. IP: Logged |

is your setup new? was the drift wood cleaned when you put it in? remove the wood and the lava rock do a 20% water change and see if it clears or you could try a chemical fix like an algacide IP: Logged |
