awww angels are nice fish! they can be moody and eat fish small enough to fit in their mouths, but they couldn't hang with those fish, in my opinion. at the minimum, they'd have their fins nipped.. even a really large angel. a smaller angel wouldn't stand a chance. IP: Logged |

There would be less suffering and less to clean up if you just put your angel with a pirahna. IP: Logged |

I dont know where you all are getting your info but I have 2 tanks one 35 gal and one 55 gal. In the 55 gal I have 2 angels(medium size), one oscar(about 5"), and 2 tinfoil barbs(about 6") I have 0 problems out of them. BUT I do buy 10 small feeders everyweekend and put in the tank with them. They eat as they get hungry and never mess with each other. IP: Logged |

If you say so but why have I not learned yet after 8 months. Plus my bro in law has 5 angels with 1 jack dempsey and 6 oscars. Trust me if you keep feeders in there they will be fine. IP: Logged |

Maybe it has to do with who was in the tank first and how they were introduced. My oscar killed his first oscar buddy, and they had been living together for a few months then. I guess my oscar Bob dole just didnt like him! anyway, if your "bad boys" are aggressive and well, then its unlikly that the angel fish will survive. I think you just have to get lucky on finding an angel fish(s) that your other fish get along with, and introduce them properly... bc IP: Logged |

about the only way an angel would survive in my 290 gallon is if it was too big for the shovelnose tigercats mouths(the bigger one always finds a way to eat something) and also too big for the amazon tigercat if it was that big then id just have to try and get an arrowana that doesnt have a big enough mouth IP: Logged |

I think you will find in time that Oscars don't just kill for food. Which fish was introduced first does SOMETIMES play a part in how long you can get by with aggressive and non-aggressive fish together. My big question is this,"If your Oscar has been in a 55 for 8 months and you give him 10 feeders a week and he is only 5" what are you doing that is stunting his growth?" IP: Logged |

Yes the only thing I feed is feeders. And some of you are mistaking a angelfish with a "non aggressive fish" because it is mid aggressive. Non-aggressive is goldfish, most tetras and shit like that, and to answer your question kc5gvn I do not know why its not bigger. The oscar I have now is the only one that I have had. I just got him because he was free. Do you think I should put more feeders in there with it. How big should it be right now. Trust me people I am NOT trying to say I am the smarttest on fish around this board because I know I am not but I AM telling you from experiance that an angel CAN live with "the big boys". Personally I dont really even like oscars they look goofy to me (not to offend anyone) opinions are like a$s holes, everyone has one and some of you may think mine stinks. Thank you IP: Logged |

Don't think that you made me mad redtailcat. I've had fish for 32 years. I only offer advice. It's yours to take or not. It won't affect me either way. It's just your statements about your tank didn't add up to the normal. That was my question. I have had a tank setup similar to yours. The 3 Marble Angels were in first then two tinfoils and then a Pacu. Never a problem. Later on I set up a tank similar and the Angels went in last and didn't last two days. Several years after that I set up a third tank like that with the Angels going in first since it had worked before. The Angels were killed the third week. Angels are not aggressive or mid-aggressive, they are dominators. Here is my distinction: Aggressive kill either for food or for the hunt. Dominators stake out their territory and are only aggressive to the point of chaseing fish from their territory. I always purchased Angels in groups of three due to their dominating tactics. I found that if I only purchased two, one would dominate the other to the point that it would not get enough to eat and would either dwarf or litarally starve itself. By buying three I would end up with a fullsized pair. In regard to Oscar size I would expect them to be 8" to 10" by now given your information (tank size + number of fish). I would also expect 10 feeders to be gone in 2 days given his/her size and knowing their apatite. That's my opinion. You can take it for what it's worth or leave it. It won't bother me. IP: Logged |

I usually started my Oscars out with flake and shrimp pellets. When they got to the size yours are now I went to feeder Goldfish, shelled shrimp like you buy at the grocery and lean beef heart. Also if you have a feed store in the area you can probably pick up a very inexpensive processed pellet food called trout chow, fisherman use it to bait a lake before fishing. It is a high protien food (as I remember about 58%) but it does have fillers like corn meal in it. You will hear all kind of pros and cons to feeders on this website but in 32 years I've only had a problem a couple of times (both times it was with flukes). IP: Logged |

(please refrain from telling people they are doing things wrong you are only giving your own opinion) first off u shouls be feeding it oscar pellets or oscar grow in it early mounths because that will expand his growing a little larger than feeding it feeders its whole life. u should feed it feeders as a treat like once a week and feed it oscar grow for the rest. u can get oscar grow at petsmart. ---red tailed catfish are the coolest---- bye [This message has been edited by RottyMommy (edited 07-17-2003).] IP: Logged |
