I rescued the 2 Oscars I currently have from a pet store that had them both in a 10 gallon tank!!! They were both around 7 in in lenth....I about freaked! A man dropped them off to her because he was moving and didn't want to take the fish. So, I saved them....they're now in an 80 gal. and love it. However, 1 of them has an eye problem. The eye is protruding from the socket very badly. When I first brought it home the eye was a little swollen, got a little worse, got better, I think layed eggs, then got worse again. Now it's worse than I've ever seen it. It is starting to bulge all around the socket like it's about to pop out. The pet store treated both of them with a general kill medicine just in case they were sick. That was about 5-6 months ago. It is definetely the most aggressive of the 2 and tries to act like nothings wrong. I can tell it's blind but don't know if it will get better on it's own or do I need to intervene. Niehter of them have clamped fins or rapid breathing. I feel so bad for it. The other oscar is perfect. This last week, I've noticed that they are both hovering a bit and not swimming a lot. I don't know if they're gonna lay eggs again or is something wrong? I do a 25-30% water change weekly and sometimes if it goes 3-4 weeks I do a 50-60% change. Please help with any advice you may have.

Will the eye pop out totally? Do I need to remove my carbon filters...it's an emperor? Thanks for the advice....I've been hesitating calling it pop eye due to the fact that it almost completely cleared up on it's own a while back. I'll try your suggestions.

To everyone, oscars love salt dips. even if it doesn't fix the problem it will relax your little guy any way. just take some aquarium water in a small tub, and mix in one tsp of salt per 1/2 gallon. then net your oscar and put him in the solution. if he thrashes take him out and use less salt. they love salt dips and all of their little nooks and crannies are cleaned out by this.
