I have been treating my 3.5 in tiger oscar for Popeye (I think from eating a store bought feeder fish) since Sunday. She is in a hospital tank, alone, and not eating. Up until I took her out of the big tank (and away from her two buddies) she was eating, even with her swollen eye. She hasn't eaten since Sunday afternoon. I took her out to treat her, afraid her eye might rupture and introduce the infection into the big tank water. I am afraid I may lose her to starvation than the bacteria. How much longer does she have if she doesn't eat? Is lack of hunger natural with this disease or is it because I moved her? Her eye looks some clearer today, but still swollen terribly. Any advice?

well...maybe put her tank next to the tank next that here buddies are in.hope this heips!

well i think that it might be missing his buddies or just be bored or in pain by himself.......i would also say to put the other tank next to his tank maybe that will cheer him up....i think that it can last a few more days without food so dont worry bout it....

Oscars don't like change. Loss of apitite is normal for any fish under stress whether from the illness or in the case of Oscars, missing their buddies. Certain medications can actually become toxic after several days of use. This is why most medications have directions which say treat for 5 days, while some say the 5 day treatment may be repeated once. Generally when meds start to become toxic they will create a foam on the top of the water. This is very characteristic of Tetracycline. How many days have you been treating the Oscar and with what medication?
