Hi, I used to have 5 Piranhas in a 65 gal. aquarium and they pretty much ate each other. My 65 gal. aquarium broke and I am interested in trying this Piranha thing again. I bought a 15 gal. aquarium and am interested in how many I should plan on putting in there. Also, I am planning on getting smaller ones (approx. 1 inch long), what do I feed them? I used to feed them Guppies but I am not sure if that is correct. Also, I never was told the correct temperature to keep the water at, any suggestions? IP: Logged |

You can't put any pirhanas in a 15 gallon tank as it is way too small. sorry. IP: Logged |

Is a 15 gal. too small for 2 very small pirahas? They would be moved to a 70 gallon in 3 months or so. Also, in the 15 gal. there is a very good filter for eliminating ammonia. Still a bad idea? Thanks IP: Logged |

Ok first of all, u can keep one baby P in a 15 gAL FOR 3 months as long as u will be upgrading it to a bigger tank soon. temp should be around 74-82 deg. F or 27-28 deg. C. Then once u have ur temp right put one or 2 feeder fish in(comets), without the piranha, and the feeder fishes waste will build up the bacterial colonies in the tank making it cleaner . bacterial colonies take a month or 2 to build up so enjoy ur lil feeder fish . Once u thinks its been long enough buy ur P. then ull already have 2 big fat feeder fish in there for him. if/when u get bigger tank u can get more P's, say 4 or 5, do the same thing with the feeder fish in that tank. Another thing bout P's they become very skidish in lighted areas, so make sure their tank isnt being blasted with light. If u dont know what pH is ask the pet store owner, for P's keep it aroun 6.5-8.0 . A power head in your tank is good 2 keeps ur P's fit and gives them a natural like current in the tank. Thank you very much for youe help. My wife and I are living with my parents while our home is being built, hence the 15 gal. tank at this time. I have a 70 gal. tank that I am unable to use right now but I got my wife to let me have a custom made tank built in our new home. It will be 250 gal. and be built in the wall! Again, thank you. What are Comets? I have never seen them. Will Guppies work as feeders or should I use another? IP: Logged |

comets are like goldfish, just they are more shaped like a minnow. if u c them in pet stores they will be called feeder fish/comets. just ask the clerk he will know. I would say guppies are 2 small but if they eat it thats good. they also like chopped up beef heart, or shrimp like off one of those shrimp rings u buy in the supermarket, or even blood worms are good food.
