I recently purchased a bala shark about the same length of my red bellied pacu-both about 4 inches. I keep them both in a 55 gallon tank but plan to buy a bigger one. They are both hyperactive but never bother each other, heck they even swim together side by side slowly. No agression at all, but is it ok to keep a pacu with a bala?

you will be ok until maybe when the pacu gets to be as big as he can get. my recommendation would be to get 4 more balas because they are a schooling fish and don't deserve to be isolated like that. also they will just look better.

Well I'm only going to give my experience with pacus and balas. I have had one pacu and 3 balas in one tank and they got along fine for a few months. But the larger the pacus got is when the fins of my balas started disappearing. I would wake up in the morning and only the heads would be left, so it didn't really work for me. Oh and btw, I've recently seen a 437lb. pacu that was 4 1/2 feet long and he was in a 4000g tank.
