I feed my Clown Knife Live feeders. I just added a Silver Arawana yesterday and he seems to have an un ending apetite. He ate three rather large feeders yesterday and last night i put in 4 more so my knife could hunt during the night. Im not sure if he got any, my arawana might have eaten them all before he got to them. How would you guys suggest feeding them live feeders. Should i just dump alot more in at one time in the hopes of my knife getting some?

Are Arawanas good night hunters?

Any Advice would be welcomed.

well, my clown bagged a nice feeder right now. I bought some crickets and fed those to my arawana so that he would get stuffed, then my clown knife had his pick at the feeders. It worked pretty good. My arawana ate a cricket, though he still took in 2 feeders before he got stuffed. good thing crickets are cheap, and cricket food to load em up with vitamins and calcium.

I may have found a solution to my feeding problem. but i would still like to hear from you guys about how you go about the process.

My Arowana is about 17" and the Tiger Shovelnose I have with him is about 15". Together they go through 100 feeder goldfish every 5 days. I aclimate 100 feeders into the tank every 5 days. Considering the age and size of your fish right now, you might want to try and get them to eat cocktail shrimp. It will be less expensive getting them to eat shrimp rather than feeders.

Wow. So you load your tank up with feeders and they eat whenever they want. The only thing im worried about (because i have no exp with Arowanas) is my Arowana outgrowing my Clown Knife and killing him later. My Arowana does eat alot mroe than the knife. He is an inch or two bigger, but hes scared of my Clown. Whenver my Clown swims near him the Arowana quickly changes directions to avoid my Clown. Actually i doubt they will ever have a problem especially because of the odd "tall" shape of Clown Knives. I just hope my knife keeps up in size.

My Arowana didn't show any sign of aggression toward a fish the size of your clown until he was about 13" in length. At that size he killed on of my 5" Balas and surpriseingly enough he went after a 4" Silver Dollar. By the time your Arowana gets that size your Clown should be 7" to 8" and should be no problem. Plus the Clown Knife is aggressive enough to chase him off. By the way a full grown Arowana can go through 100 feeders a day by himself.

Well FishKid, Ther are alot of different ways. In the past, i just went out into the yard (or hills near by) and found nicely shaped rocks and washed them really good and situated them in the tank to form a cave. Another thing i have done is go down to Home Depot/Lowes and buy a ceramic plant pot, take a hammer, bash the top rim from the side to create a decent sized entry way (suitable for the fish you want to go in and out) and place the pot in your tank upside down. In my Clown Knife/Arowana tank, i went to Petco and bought two $12 fake Hallow logs, open at each end with a hole in the center front.

My Pictus Catfish really likes those caves and kicked My Clown Knife out of them. Just today my Knife moved back into the one that the Pictus doesnt use as much.

I was even concidering buying a clear plastic ferret tube, but didnt.

Just get creative, think about what would look good in your tank with your fish.

My main concideration was to give my fish a place were they could feel secure, and at the same time i wanted to be able to see my fish anytime i pleased, so i wanted hiding places with lots of holes, and situated them in my tank so i could see inside.

Hope that helps.

Heres a link to a pic of my old setup. Its has three various hide-outs.
