Which is better??????

1. Under gravel filter

2. Common filter that hangs on back of tank.

Any help would be great.

I prefer the waterfall systems that hang off the tank. Ive had more experience with them and havent had any problems as of yet.

Plus the sound of the falling water is soothing and relaxing and in my opinion adds to the atmosphere of the tank.

Not possitive if its better, but its what i have going and i like my setup. easy to clean, etc.

It's not a question of better. I run both. I prefer the undergravel filter for biological filtration and use an outside filter purely for filtration. My water stays sparkling clear with virtually no bacterial problems. I run 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 10 gallons of water. Do a 20% water change and power filter cleaning once a week. And a major gravel cleaning every 4 to 6 months depending on what type of fish or how loaded the tank is with fish. About the only time I lose fish is when my Red Tail Cat decides he wants an extra snack like my Firemouth.
