Help-- For the last two days my Oscar has been siting on the bottom on my tank and will not move. I have had my Oscar for 6 years and I have not seen her do this before. She is breathing very hard, however I see no visible signs of disease. I have other fish in the tank and they show no signs of being sick. I welcome any suggestions... Thank You IP: Logged |

Well, I don't know anything about Oscars, but I know mine sat at the bottom of my tank for a few days and acted like it didn't want to move. When I approached it with a net, it would always swim slowly to another part of the tank and rest again. After a few days of this and appearing to almost die, (literally laying on it's side on the bottom) I woke up one morning and it was fine. My conclusion, My fish over ate and needed to rest to digest the food. Could be, could not be, your problem. I can't say, because I don't know anything about Oscars... IP: Logged |

If this has lasted more than a few days, I would've already checked all nitrite and nitrate levels along with amonia and PH. After checking these, I would speak with a specialist at an aquatic store for some suggestions... [This message has been edited by scorpiocasper (edited 04-05-2003).] IP: Logged |

Since you've had this Oscar for six years you no doubt have already checked the tank conditions and they must be fine. The behavior you describe I have seen with some tempermental Oscars. If you have changed the tank location, moved plants or rocks around, or added any new fish He may just be pouting. Other than that you may have to face the fact that he has probably lived out his lifespan. I don't know of too many Oscars that have lived past that age. I hope he is just pouting. IP: Logged |
