i have a question about the tank cleaning, i know with regular fish you can just have an algea eater fish in there to help clean the tank but i am thinking the piranhas will eat it, so i am wondering what is a way to clean the tank with very little work, could i just buy algea eating snails or something?

Aquariums are hard work! There is no fish that can keep your tank clean. You will have to vacuum the gravel and then replace like 20 percent of the water ever two weeks or every month. Failure to do so will result in the loss of fish. You will need to scrape algae off the glass every once in a while, as algae eater fish cannot do the job alone. Pirhana grow big and will need a big tank! Good luck

If your afraid of your pirhanas, then just simply buy an algae cleaning tool with a long handle... so your hands wont get wet. Your filters will clean and deal with some of the water issues, but ultimately the ammonia will take over and dominate any filter on the market. There is no filter made by man that can keep an aquarium clean all by itself without water changes...sorry.
The fish waste has to be vacuumed out of the rock or gravel substrate. Even if your filters do a great job you must still get rid of the final product in the cycle which is nitrate. 20 percent water change with a siphon at least once a month regardless of tank size. I bet your pirhanas wont bite you!

your plecos will do fine with reds they shouldn't go after it. as well as your hand just suck it up and put it in there most likely you will see them scurry to the other side. besides for scrapers they have magnets that has a scraper on one part and velvet on the other put the scraper side on the inside and velvet on outside and they come together cleaning the glass whereever you move it. but really just put your hand in there learn that they are more scared of you

ya dont worry about the piranas biting you. I thought the same thing when i first got my piranas. They freak out when u stick your hand in there and start moving around if they start getting closer just shake your hand a bit and they go back into the other corner. I dont know about when they get bigger though, mine are still only about 3 inches. I do water changes once a week and clean all my decorations at the same time, is that too often? I change around 30% of the water
