I have a twenty gallon tank and I am going to put a Jack Dempsey in it. Is that a good match and I know this a dumb question but are those saltwater fish? Thanks for your help

20 gallons for a dempsey is plenty! And they are freshwater fish. I have one right now and she's 1 and a half years old. I had her since she was an EGG that was first laid by her past parents. Now she's 8 inches! But when they get big, considering buying 45 gallon approx for the fish. FOR A DEMPSEY.
mine is a serial killer so shes by her self
