I'm going to upgrade my filter that is currently on my 55 gallon freshwater tank. What I have right now is a TopFin60, which is what PetSmart sells in their aquarium kits. I want a good filter but I don't want to pay the price of a canister filter. Any recommendations?

Better yet, get a cannister filter that will fit underneath the tank. The filter kit you have is too small! Go to DrsFosterSmith.com

jay i have to disagree...the 300 smells real bad after one week and doent allow bacteria to build as quickly...hoobens right the canister pumps are better
i jus got rid of my aquaclear 300
later

true it does smell... but i got no loot to get a fluval quite yet =P im spending money for my car, girl, prom, blah, blah.. sucks haha.. all good tho

I use a Penguin 330 Bio Wheel filter. It doesn't cost too much at Petsmart and it works well for my 55 gal tank. I use it with the filter that came standard with the tank.
