bestest fishman,
I was wondering how you can tell the gender of red-bellied piranahs. Also if it's not really possible it would be better to increase my tank size to 50 gallon. I currently have two 5 inch in a 30 gallon. I was also wondering wether feeding them one feeder fish is a good meal plan. One more thing is i'm not quite sure what the optimal tank temp for them should be. Thankyou -shawn

You can't tell the gender of a red-belly piranha unless you watch for differences that might give you a clue that they are opposite sex. Namely, males tend to darken up sooner, first in most cases to make a depression in gravel (blowing), they also can be seen tail slapping (though either sex does the same thing, but male usually does it first). Female are a bit more robust in the body, but not always a key to say for sure. For breeding purposes, I would go no smaller than a 55 g., larger being better because you are going to need plenty of tank space for the 6,000-8,000 fry your fish can have. I wouldn't use feeders if you can avoid it. Try other foods, like spirulina, beefheart and shrimp. As for optimal, I would say anywhere from 78-82F would be a good range, with 82F being the temp to aim for to get them to mate at opt temp.

If you go to that site, you might as well dial 1-900-bs.com

If your interested in facts go to Piranha Fury. You can find the banner at opefe website.

Actually, SuperNate got all his information from OPEFE web site and Predatory fish. Its just copied stuff with his own name on it. Anyway, if you want the real stuff on piranhas give piranha fury or opefe web site. You can find them using google search engine or you can send me an email and I can direct you to real information and not made up stuff.
