hello, I have a 100 gallon tank and I recently put in 4 medium sized bala sharks. I have 10 tiger barbs in there and one of them keeps nipping at the balas fins. I know tiger barbs are fin nippers by nature but its only one certain tiger thats doing it. Is it just because the balas are new? will it settle down after a while? should I get rid of that one tiger barb? And is there a risk of the balas dieng because of this behaviour? the balas are much bigger than the barbs. any help would be greately appreciated as I am new to fish keeping. Thanks! IP: Logged |

Usually tiger barbs just chase each other around and are harmless to other fishes in a big tank. Once the tigers grow larger they become much more agressive and begin pestering other inhabitants of your aquarium. Try removing the larger dominant male. That might help. I put all of my tiger barbs with two large severums in a 55 gallon tall. The tigers are too fast for the severums to eat, yet agressive enough to eat the messy severums leftovers at feeding time. Good Luck and don't give up! Aquariums are cool! IP: Logged |
