I'm sure this is a silly question, but I am slowly building toward a fully planted tank. So.. how do you vacuum the gravel without uprooting the plants or damaging them?
thanks for any help.

I've been told to use pea sized gravel and to lightly vacuum without moving too much of the substrate. Holding the siphon close to the surface, but not digging in too far, is a good idea. I know that using an undergravel filter with live plants is also not recommended. Any debris left behind in the substrate will be used by the plants in the long run.
Good Luck!
