Best filters are the largest ones you can afford. HAEGEN makes great filters and you want to put your expense in that and a good heater of at least 200 watts. I hate to recommend a certain product for you. Best deal is look them over carefully and keep in mind that piranhas like to bite things and even dash around. So whatever you decide to do, get one that is least likely to break.

I haven't used fluval for years. There was a problem with leaks and other unfortunate problems that would make you want to toss them out. It could have been a bad one I purchased. Their warranty was pretty good, but I decided to stay away from canister and just use the hanging type filters with bio-wheel. Again, it is something you need to read up about and make a solid decision on what you particular want. Read up on the pro's and con's. What is easier for you in terms of maintenance. I prefer to pull out a pad than have to breakdown a canister especially if you get lazy and not back flush it.
