I have just recently bought two 2" piranas a couple of days ago and they always hide behind my plants. My question is, Do they always hide? I want to see them eat my feeders that I give them. I just put the feeders in the tank and the next day they are gone. They aren't that exciting at the moment. Are they going to be more responsive when they get older? IP: Logged |

hahaha, you are learning that piranhas are not all they are cut out to be! They are very shy and skittish and will hide alot until they are accustomed to their new home. They need low light and little outside disturbances. These fish only eat one or two goldfish in a day, sometimes more, usually less. Sometimes they will just eat the fins and leave the body or head floating around. [This message has been edited by Auspetian (edited 12-08-2002).] IP: Logged |

No doubt fishman2. I was expecting more "action" all these fish do is hide behind rocks and plants and come out when its dark (both in tank and out of tank). i have about 5 goldfish with no fins, lol. I wish the phiranhas would come up to the glass and have more personality like other fish. IP: Logged |

By the way, i forgot to mention, this is in the phiranhas nature. They are predators in the wild and hide behind rocks and plants waiting for fish to swim by, then they attack. Its normal for a predator so to speak, i am wondering if there is a way to "train" them to not hide or be more active in light. Maybe if i leave the aquairum lights on 24/7 they will get used to it at a young age and be out more. I figure sooner or later they will get big and cant hide anymore, hehe IP: Logged |

I have 2 red bellies, about 5 inches long each. Between the two of them, they eat about 48 feeders a week. Don't get discouraged, they'll be tearing your tank up in no time. IP: Logged |
