I have a 30 gal. tank with 5 pictus catfish. We just got the fish on 8/18 and this morning we noticed they all have tiny white spots on their backs behind their head and just before their dorsal fin. What caused this and how can I treat them. Please help out!

That sounds like it might be ich. Ich is a disease that leaves tiny white spots on the fish, giving it the appearence that it has been sprinkled with a salt shaker. I don't remembe what causes it, but left untreated, it cam be fatal. My fish got it once. Just go to your local petstore or walmart or something. They'll have medication. Just follow the directions on the bottle, and they'll be better in no time.

Thanks for your help on the problem with my fish. yes they had ick but by the time I got home from work friday they were completely covered from head to toe including whiskers with the white spots. I treated them over the weekend with ick drops. Only to have 5 dead catfish by Sunday afternoon. They must have caught the worst case. Because by sat night they could hardly swim and breathing was a tough struggle. Someone told me you have to watch buying fish from Wal-mart this was the first time I had bought from here. Any way thanks for your help.

Your welcome. Sorry to hear about your catfish. The fish I bought from Wal-mart died within days except for three of them. But they are very sick right now with septicemia. (a bad internal infection) I don't think I'll but from wal-mart again.
