Last year most of the established fish (carp and koi) in my garden pond died - without any apparent symptoms. Water was analysed and found to be satisfactory. A number however, survived but already 2 or 3 have died - all with extremely distended bellies and one with a distended belly and bent at about 30 degrees. Can you guess at what is wrong and how I can correct? Many thanks. Bryan IP: Logged |

Dear Bryan It appears like your garden pond is infected with some sort of virus. There are various fish medicines you can buy at your If that doesn’t help I would clear the pond water all together and then scrub the pond with a good disinfected and let it dry for a few weeks.......then refill with water and place the fish back. I have not found any book reference for this problem. An almost transparent and slimy growth is occurring on all the plant surfaces in the pond, roots, stems leaves. It appears to be filamentous and glutinous but is not colored. Any ideas on a) what it is b) how to get rid of it as it appears to be impeding plant growth IP: Logged |
