I just got a puppy a few days ago. He is a Shih-Tzu Maltese mix and is black and white. The white on his mouth and his two front paws have been stained brown from his food. Is there anything I can do to make him white again? Also, when is the best age to have the puppy fixed? Thanks! IP: Logged |

Hello! I also have a Shih Tzu/Maltese mix. The only advice I can give you about the face is to wash it daily. Mine doesn't get stained from food, but she does get a smelly beard. As for spaying, you should really talk to your vet about your specific situation. I had Graysie spayed at 5-1/2 months because I wanted to make sure she was altered before her first heat. Just my opinion, but the reduction in risk for mammary cancer was the reason for my choice. Good luck. And post pictures! Diane in Houston IP: Logged |

My poodle had a similar problem recently. She had stains coming out of one eye, inbetween her twos her rear end, herfront elbow and at the sides of her mouth. The vet said it was some type of infection. I had her on anti-biotics and is fine now. ------------------ IP: Logged |

PuppyLover152, I have a Maltese and he has tear stains, but not exactly what you have(food stains). The best advice I know to give you is to maybe buy some baby wipes (fragrence free works best) and wash right after he eats. As for getting him fixed, I got my Maltese (who is about 3.5 pounds) fixed when we was about 7 and a half months old and he did fine, but I would say around 6 months-1yr seems to be about the average. =) I hope this helps!!!
