Hi, im new on the board my name is Claire. I have 3 dogs. 2 Havanese (one 4 yrs and one 6.5 months) and a newfieXpyrenese. Anyway I am having a major problem with my little 6 month old 'Pete' eating poop. His and the other Havanese 'Holly'. He just waits there to finish her business, like she a dispenser of some kind. Ive heard of FORBID but it doesnt work, smae as most of the other products. Ive tried verbally scolding him, ignoring him, picking up after him, going out side with him, but NOTHING seems to work. forbid dosent work? hmmm forbid worked for me. You can get this spray called bitter apple (can be found at petsmart) and every time he goes to eat the poo spray the bitter apple in his mouth and say NO! This might help him associate poo with that bad taste. and trust me, I tasted it and it is AWFUL. So it might work. Worth a try. If not ask your vet or a trainer for some advice. Ive tried the Garlic and I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN! poor Pete has had the 'runs' for 2 days. I have some bitter lime spray which has the basic same ingrediants as the apple stuff and I think he might be alergic to it :S IP: Logged |

I used meat tenderizer...but Im pretty sure these products only work on the dogs own poop, not on other dogs poop. Prozyme is another product that might help...it helps dogs digest their food better leaving the poop less desirable. [This message has been edited by nern (edited 11-10-2003).] IP: Logged |

I also have 2 Yorkies that "clean the cat box for me" but i'm not sure if they actually eat it they bring me presents and leave it for me on my couch, my bed and right in the middle of the floor i scold them but it dosent always work. I have gotten rid of the cat box it was just there for an emergancy in case the cats got locked in the house so now we have to make sure they are outside before we leave IP: Logged |

Hey ppl. Okay as it is obvious that many ppl(from the postings shown) have the problem with their dogs eating their poo, it isn't really a difficult task to be stopped. My maltese when younger(still a puppy but was a younger pup) ate his poo maybe once or twice and I just told him no in a stern(not mean) voice, and then of course brushed his teeth with doggy toothpaste for obvious reasons.. lol but I would suggest to tell them no if caught. I don't think the Garlic is a good idea because some dogs are highly alergic to certain foods(or spices rather). Maybe you could give your dog a bone or something to chew on (or try feeding him/her their dog food) when you see him eating poo. As far as the apple and lime spray I have not heard of, but it might be worth a shot. =) good luck and keep us updated on what works!  IP: Logged |

Goofy: My Yorkie has the same disgusting habit...then wants to jump on your lap and lick my face...YUCK...I tried Deter from the pet store...IT DID WORK..however Like another poster said...Moe eventually got a case of the runs that required a vet visit...I couldn't clear it up...He was on boiled chicken and rice for a week and every time I put him back on dog food the runs came back...He has a very sensitive stomach..poor thing only gets baked chicken as a treat cuz every thing else gives him the runs.
