I am interested in getting a Peekapoo for my girlfriend, soon to be engaged. The problem is that I am allergic to dogs, cats, and just about everything else... haha. Actually I can play with a dog or cat, but have to wash my hands immediately. If I touch my face by accident... game over. Red Eyes, and sniffles for the rest of the day.

Does anyone know if Peekapoos are ok for people with allergies. I have been told that a Yorkie or Shih tzu would be better. Problem is my girlfriend fell in love with the last Peekapoo pup she saw.

Anyone with allergies have a peekapoo?

Thanks

Hiya,

I have pet allergies too and had to do some work before deciding on a breed. If you handle the puppy for a little while before deciding to buy it, you'll have a much better idea. For example, I found that I was really allergic to Shih Tzu's when I visited a breeder, so that was out. I found that I wasn't allergic to a Shih Tzu/Poodle cross puppy. I'd been interested in poodles because they're in general good for allergies, but I'm not in love with poodles. So I found my happy medium and I'm glad I did! So even if you're allergic to pekinese, you might not be allergic to the poodle cross. However, make sure that you visit the specific puppy that your girlfriend wants to buy BEFORE she brings it home because it's hard to tell which properties will be passed on to the offspring. You might be allergic to one peekapoo, but not another if certain genes get passed down from the parents.

Good luck!

I have a Yorkie and a Pekeapoo. My yorkie never sheds, if he does I've yet to see it and he never has bothered my allergies. My Pekeapoo is starting to shed and I think she will shed a lot as she matures, she is taking after the pekingese side more than the poodle. She didn't start to shed until about a month ago she's 4 months now. So with the cross breeds you really don't know until they get older if they will be shedders or not. If you end up getting the pekeapoo you may end up getting attached to something you may not be able to keep, if it bothers the allergies a whole lot. If my pekeapoo ends up bothering my allergies I'll just have to suck it up cause I just love her to pieces and I could never part with her no matter what. But you are taking a 50/50 chance with the allergies when you get the mixes.
