Hi All,

I posted the other day about purchasing a Shih-poo from a pet store, and tonight I decided to take the plunge and bring him home. But when I was going through the paper work, there was a note from the vet that saw him 2 months ago, saying that his underbite is graded as a 2, which apparently means "no problem" but that he could grow into a grade 3, which could mean problems. This scared me. I took the pup in my arms and took a look for my self, his bottom teeth are out so much further that you can almost stick the tip of your baby finger between the upper and lower teeth. Does any one have any info on this? They will not let me take the puppy out of the store to see a vet, I have to purchase him first, and then take my chances...
I am lost, any info would be greatly appreciate!

thanks!

will they give you a "warrant" so that after you do buy the puppy you can take him to the vet within the first 48-72 hours and if their is a health problem you can bring him back? if not than i would definently think twice....i dont think that an overbite is too big of a health problem to not buy a puppy....but there could be an underlying problem that the owner doesnt want you to know about if they arent willing to let you take it to the vet or bring it back after it has been to a vet....these are just my thoughts!

The poodle I got at the shelter had an underbite. She is around 6 1/2 years old and now since I have had her two of the small teeth in between the large side teeth on the bottom have fallen out. When I got her one of them was already missing. She now has one more small tooth left down there. It is sticking out alot, but not so it can be seen without opening her mouth. I know its going to come out. I would say the over bite for her mouth was about 1/4th of an inch. It was pnly noticable when opening her mouth. Some dogs you can blatently see it just by looking at them. Has this dogs got his permanent teeth yet? All in all most small dogs start to loose the same teeth that my Sasha has lost as they get older, which is apparantly quite the norm. As with the tiny teeth on the side. If this is the only problem it should not be bad. Unless the pup has teeth are mispalced and pushing up into the gums of its mouth causing pain and bleeding, I don't see a problem. Only thing is this dog should be sold as a pet only, no breeding policy. No need to pass on the overbite in another set of pups and have them sitting wondering where there home will be. Breeding is to improve the species. My poo's parents should not have been bred. But I love her to peices. As I said if this is the only thing wrong then he should not be a problem. Let us know your decision.
