It would be well worth it for you to buy a clipper set that is a very good one. Its fine to start out with a human clipper set. But the ones made especially for dogs were made so the motors don't overheat as fast. Humans don't use theirs for the extended periods that a groomer would. So when you think about it. You probably spend about $25 to $30 per grooming session. If you just put maybe 4 groomings worth into a nice clipper set you will save money after that by doing it yourself. Here is a site that has many to choose from. www.petedge.com

Perhaps you can wrap him in a towel and hold it snuggly. I use a dremel type of tool now instead of clipping. This way I never cut the quick and make them bleed. Mine is actually called a roto-matic and come with all sorts of little gadgets. So I can drill my own holes or file, or even etch glass if I wanted to try that. But You put on the one that has sand paper on it. There is a site that explains how to do it. Better than I can. ok. You would just need to get you pup used to the sound. He may run at first, but he will come to realize its ok. Or take the chance of clipping with the reg. nail clipper and risk making him bleed and then he will really hate having it done.. Ok I am off to find the site.

Puttin: I have heard about this kind of machine for nails. Is it expensive and were do you find it? Is it worth getting?

They sell the dremel at any hardware store. All you would need is the smallest version of it. My husband has one in the garage, but I use one like it but its called Rotos-matic. I had seen a comercial for it, It is rechargeable and holds enough charge for about three nails trims. This one is about twenty dollars. The dremel costs around $50 or so. The one I use is well worth it because you can basically see where you need to stop even on dark nails. Did you take a look at the post I put on here about dremeling your dogs nails, If not check it out. I got my rotomatic at walgreens.
