Hi All,
I recently paid for a cockapoo-shih tzu mix pup. He's currently 4 weeks old, and still with his mom. However, the owner of his parents is not a real professional breeder. She is telling those who purchase puppies from her that they can go home on the 25th...they will only be 5 & 1/2 weeks.

To me this sounds fishy. Everyone is confirming my thoughts and telling me that my dog will probably have social problems if he doesn't stay with his mom longer. Is it as likely as it sounds? Wouldn't he be better if he gets associated with people and animals sooner than later? I'm very confused. I just called a vet and spoke with a nurse and she said he'd be fine as far as health, and left it at that. WHAT'S GOING ON?!

If anyone on here could help I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

hi lilo_mom puppys usually don't leave their mothers untill they are at least 8 weeks of age. but some have gotten them earlier.why don't you try asking her to keep the pup untill he's a couple of weeks older.tell her your worried about the risks of taking him home to soon.and if she says it's not to soon just say it was your vets advise.good luck

Lilo_mom, usually toy breeds aren't suppose to leave their mom untill 12 weeks of age. This is when the bonding between (new owner) and puppy happens. This doesn't sound like a responsible breeder. Maybe just try asking her if she would hold the puppy untill older, if she says no...then this is a bad case! Also...at 5 1/2 weeks old they aren't even done nursing usually!!!!!
