Sorry I did not mean to upset any one. I am just trying to learn more about The Shi Poo. Anyone please tell me anything you can about my new puppy that I am getting!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not sure how to even use this site.

There is alot of controveries about purposely mating two opposite breeds and and from whom and where you buy it. I have a mini poodle. You will be fine here at toy dogs. We all just don't want you to get stuck with a dog that someone bred totally incorrectly health wise. I say poodles in general can be either calm or hiper. It is a 50-50 chance. When you pick out your put if you want a jumpy one ask the breeder to tell you which one it is or if you want a calm one. They will know the temperments of each puppy if they care for them like they should. Poodles are very much lap dogs and kind of one person dogs, mine is. They are completely adorable. I am not sure about the shitzu part. Thou both dogs are very elegant in their looks. There are quite a few shi poo owners here and they may come and say a few things. When will you get your pup? Also be prepared to either become a groomer or send it to one, their hair constantly grows. Hope you stick around. Oh of course I should say welcome!!!

SharronCD, I'm not sure where you posted and who said that. I agree with puttin. People here understand little dogs, and why ppl love each and everyone of them! Welcome to auspet! There are many shi-poo owners here... I own a Maltese. AKA small fluffy cotton ball... lol...

Thanks I think i will stay with Small dogs.
I had a 5lb poodle named Abby. She was the love of my life except for my husband and children of course. She was always there when I was sad or happy. I had to have her put to sleep June 20th. That was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. But I know she is much better off. She was Blind, deaf, Heart problems and fluid starting in her lungs. The vet said she did not have much longer . I really miss her. But I have picked out my new puppy and can get her the 21st of July. She is a Shi Poo. Black and white. I can't wait. I would just like any information about this breed I can get before we pick her up. Information from people who have one.

sharon if you need info on a shihpoo i have one and i can give you some info.they range from 7-15 pounds. they are very smart , i pretty much consider mine a lap dog because he's so lovable.they are wonderfull with kids ,not too hyper and they have a great personality.shihpoo's look like a shihtzu and act like a poodle pretty much.if you have any more questions just post it here and i'll be glad to help.welcome to auspet

well my little guy is only 6 months old right now and i haven't trained him to go outside yet so he goes on paper.but i believe he will be easy to house train because i've noticed (and you'll notice it to when you get your shihpoo)that they are very eager to please. like all puppys they are alot of work but once your pup knows what you expect from her she'll do just fine.

sharron.. i have a black and white shih tzu/toy poodle, shih poo.. she's 15 months old and doing great.. with the mixed breeds there is never certain personality traits that you are guaranteed; however, much of what i've read about shih poos sounds very similar to bella.. poodles are one of the smartest dogs, shih tzus are also smart but more of lap dogs.. poodles tend to be active and enjoy running around and playing games while shih tzus are comfortable just hanging out on your lap.. from my experience bella has very many of these traits.. she is the smartest dog i've ever had, loves cuddling and giving love but also enjoys getting outside and playing with all the neighborhood dogs, big and small.. as for potty training she was the easiest i've ever had.. growing up i had two west highland white terriers and a lhasa apso; however, when she learned potty training i was spending the summer at my parents where my family's 12 year old lhasa was around to set an example.. good luck and ask away any more questions you have.. once i got bella i bought the book "puppies for dummies" and continue to find it very helpful..

My mini poodle just lives to sit on my lap. The only thing that gets her off of it is food, walks and another dog walking pass our Apartment. Total lap dog she is. I love that about her.

I have a 7 monnth old Shih Poo, Winnie. She is all white with a tint of caramel color on her back. She has the poodle face and shih tzu hair and tail. She often gets mistaken for a Maltese. But she does have the ever so popular shih tzu underbite. she is the best dog that i could have ever asked for. she is so loving. sometimes i think she is part human. she is very smart. she too loves to play with other dogs. she prefers the big dogs, so that she can pretend that she is big and wrestle with them. quite a sight, let me tell you...she is WONDERFUL with children. i take her to work with me almost everyday. i am a speech therapist and i work with preschoolers. she is great for working on social skills with some of my autistic children. she is very playful and she is also a great lap dog. what more could you ask for? she isnt a "yippie" dog. she hardly ever barks. she barks if someone is knocking at the door. i am, however, having a difficult time with house training. we used the pads in the kitchen when she was younger, but i didnt want her to rely on them all the time so i got rid of them. she sometimes goes to the door when she has to go out. but sometimes she just likes to "water the carpets"...shouldnt it be "water the grass"??? hopefully she will catch on. i think she knows, maybe its my fault. but she is a great dog and i think choosing a shih poo was a GREAT idea!!!!!! good luck!!! contact me if you need any help or if you have any questions--maybe i can help!
