I have a maltepoo and a malt tzu. The shih tzu mix mats close to the skin if I don't brush her almost every day. As for the maltepoo, he also hated getting brushed! He would go crazy and his monthly visit to the groomer was horrible! I've been working with him for the last couple of months and he almost seems to like it now. Here's what I do... I put him up on the table so he's less of a fighter. This was the single biggest factor in overcoming his obstinance. I also pull out his favorite liver treats that I used for training (I've been slouching lately) and he knows he gets one afterwards. Start off with just a little at a time and eventually you'll be able to brush all of him. Then give him a treat. I also coo over him the entire time and I'm very soft and gentle. Hope this helps.
