does anyone know a good way to get rid of fleas. somehow my apartment has become over run with them and i just cann't seem to get them to die, we've tried bombing and flea drops for the dogs we've tried the flea shampoo. are they just really hard to get rid of or what? we even bombed it again last night, that was a long 2 and half hours out on the balcony. we had a big bottle of wine though so it wasn't too boring. anyways we still found one or two on the dogs this morning, and i am really just at my wits end with these little SOB's so if any one knows something that i don't please fill me in...PLEASE!!!!

first of all, what drops are you using on your dogs, and did you bathe them before you went out or when you came back in? Did you vaccume? Do laundry?

What kind of bombs did you use?

Last but not least, how long has this flea problem been going on?

The same thing happened to me about 6 years ago, but it was from my cat. The only way to get rid of the fleas from your apartment is remove the dog/s from inside for a couple of days. If you can't keep the dog outside then try and get a friend to look after him. (Bathe the dog first). U stay somewhere else too! After 2-3 days the fleas will be frantic for food, then this is where it gets hard. With me, my friend popped over with her mutt for a couple of hours. When she enventually left, the fleas went with her. (on her dog) it was easy because her dog already had fleas so she didn't even know. Just get someone over who's dog has fleas. I know it sounds drastic but it really did work!! I think starving the fleas makes them more desperate to find a host.. Good Luck..

thanks for the feedback!! as far as what kind of drops and bombs we used i don't remember, i'll look when i go home tonight. as far as bathing goes they are bathed about once a week , that was before the fleas. now we bath them whenever we find a flea on one of them. but i know the drops say that they can't have a bath within 3 days of applying it. so when that happens we just pick them off and put them in the fireplace. as far as vacuming and laundry goes i stay on top of it i'm a neat freak. it really bothers me when my apartment gets messy. i can't stand it. i think that this all started when my girfriends mother brought her little mutt over to our apartment, bc when we were telling her about our problem she chimed in with "yeah i've got them in my backyard too" well that was about a week and a half ago. we just noticed them two days ago. interesting idea neek about starving them and everything. if we can stay somewhere else i'll give it a try. thanks!!! also i got a question for you. you live in australia right? have you ever heard of anyone keeping a dingo as a pet? just curious

Yes I live in Australia, and yes people have dingos for pets. They sell pups from the Zoo for $400 each. They are much more common than they were 15 years ago. The only problem with people buying them as pets is that they may get cross-bred with other dogs and no-one is really sure how many wild, pure dingoes are left in Australia. They also get shot by farmers as they are game enough to break in and kill peoples chickens and sometimes sheep.

I forgot to mention that it is okay for you to stay at your apartment. You may get bitten but fleas can't survive on humans. Just try to get rid of your dog for a couple of days. Trust me it works!!

i cant believe you gave your fleas so someone else's dog. There is this stuff called Frontline. get it. it works great. My brother keeps 3 dogs inside. and no fleas. If you cannot find Frontline, i read on the net that you can use Dawn Dish Liquid to bath your dog with and that is SUPPOSED to work but i dont know. But Frontline works great.

Sprinkle Morton Salt all over the carpet. Leave for 3 hours and then vacuum it up. It works great!

I'd never heard of Frontline six years ago otherwise i most definately would have used it. Fleas don't just breed on the dogs they also breed in bedding, carpet, and anywhere they can get away with it. You have to treat your house first or the dog will keep getting them, no matter how much you bathe it. I tried powders, shampoos and sprays and I found that the only way to get rid of them at the time was by starving them for days and since my friend didn't deflea her dog or her house/yard anyway it was an effective way to get rid of them. It sounds slack but it worked and I figured if she liked to live with fleas in her house then she wouldn't care if she had a few more. She never said nothing so in my opinion if she wants to live like her dogs then she can!!

All I am saying is that this works. Use Frontline on your dog. It will keep the fleas off. Wash everything. And use the salt thing in your carpet like i said. This would work. Also you should treat your yard. There is stuff you can buy that you spray in your yard and it kills the fleas. All I am doing is giving you good advice. Your choice if you want to live with fleas.

angie thank you so much, you're a life saver!! we went out last night and got frontline and did the salt thing on the carpet. and so far so good. do you know if the salt will the kill eggs that haven't hatched yet? or do i need to repeat this process in like 2-3 weeks?

No problem bennyboy! I am not sure how often you will have to do this. My friend said she did it once and it worked. But if I were you I would try and do it maybe once a month I guess. I am not sure about the eggs. But you should go and get the spray for your yard also. I would wait and see if the fleas come back. If they do, then do the salt thing again and buy the spray for your yard. Make sure to keep using the Frontline though!

I've heard there are some health concerns with Frontline, Hence I use Advantix or Advantage. I haven't had problems with fleas since using it.

hey bennyboy get some SEVEN DUST that is the name of it.it is very good for all kinds of bugs and it isnt toxic sprinkle it all over your carpet wait like an hour then vacume it up but if there on the walls and just out of control set off a RAID BOMB. and no i dont have any puppies not till next year, then i am going to fix nala and capone(my pits).

i used to put seven dust on my plants when they would get mites and stuff. i didn't know that you could use it for that too. good to know thanks smokey

I have had flee trouble.There is this stuff called seven or something like that.It kils flees, ticks, and all types of bugs, but you gotta get the seven dust. you can put this stuff on your dogs.It is real hard to get rid of them but you can put that stuff on your carpets to.I don't know if it's cold where you live at put you'll have a break during the winter.You gotta wash your stuff all of it everything.

No but she wouldn't have noticed anyway, she had 6 cross breed dogs that lived in her house, they used to do their business in her hallway and her females used to give birth on her bed while she was asleep!! Her house would have been riddled with fleas anyway so I didn't feel guilty to give her a few more. I shouldn't have posted that as it really isn't nice advice to give I guess. Don't worry everyone, I won't do that again!! If I get fleas again I will buy frontline or advantage or something from the vet.
