I feed my dog this puppy food from Petco, I cant think of the name right now but its good stuff and she loves it (Its $$). I just read that someone puts an egg in their dogs food to help their coat. Is that a good thing to do for a puppy? I just want her to be healthy and fit. Any suggestions?

hi NALA,

hey check out Maisey's post on "FOOD FOR THOUGHT". It has tons of info that'll help you understand nutrition to help you make a knowledgable, confident choice. If you have anymore questions on anything don't be afraid to post! We love this stuff, well let me speak for myself... LOL!

Well let me give you "my" opinions on your questions. For one, stay away from Petco, if you can. It's not really "bad", just not the best, and there's better, at reasonable prices. What kind of dog do you have? You did'nt say what exactly is the type of food that your buying at Petco, but you did say it's $$. Let's just say that your buying a "dry-kibble" food. And, let me say that your buying either Eukanuba Puppy, or Nutro's Natural Choice Puppy. These are probably Petco's best "dry-kibble" foods, in "MY" opinion. With just a couple more dollars, you could be feeding your pups w/ a much more higher quality diet. I could go on-&-on about this subject. So let me just say, try looking into a brand of dry kibble food called Chicken Soup, or Canidae. This is a GOOD start for introducing your puppy to g o o d nutrition, at a REASONABLE price. Especially if your already paying for food like EUKANUBA Puppy. Overall, check-out Maisey's post! Lot's of good stuff in there.

Petco also has Natural Balance canned and dry food, which was one Whole Dog Journal's list of good foods. Petco isn't the best option for pet foods, but for someone like me, with no specialty shops to get the top brands of food from, it's the best option, even if they are a bit rip-you-off on prices.

oOpPsS!! GOOB, that did cross my mind when i submitted my last post. Thanks for the low-down... lol! OK then NALA, if you must use Petco to do your dog-food shopping, i'd definatley recommend "Natural Balance"-Ultra Premium, or their Potato & Duck Formula.
This is NB's Ultra Premium's "main"
ingredients list:
1-Chicken
2-Ground Brown Rice
3-Duck
4-Lamb MEal
5-Oatmeal/Rolled Oats
6-Pearled Barley
7-Potatoes
8-Chicken Fat
9-Natural Flavors
10-Tomato Pomace
11-Canola Oil
12-Brewer's Yeast
13-Lecithin
14-Carrots
15-Flaxseed
16-Dried Kelp
17-Salt
The only concern that i kinda have w/ is ingredient #9-"natural flavors", only because it's not specific. And in this industry of dog food processing, that could be anything! Kinda scary/nasty feeling of not knowing... These are the kinda things where you gotta go w/ your gut-feeling & hope that the company is doing our dogs right, & not feeding our dogs--dogs, if you know what i mean... For example. Coating the food w/ "natural flavors", exactly what is it? Why did'nt they just simply type down what it is or are? this "can" be a sign of misleading text... Good Example of business marketing.... err stratagies & lies... get good at reading between the lines... lol! I don't know exactly al i'm saying is be aware, & make a knowledgable choice. Don't go into nutrition blind. Nutrition plays a bigger roll in a dog's health than most people think.
Overall, untill i hear any "BAD" facts on that particular ingredient #9, or really Natural Balance in general, i'm still sticking w/ it as a choice in my dog's rotation dry kibble diet. I've heard nothing but good, so far. I've also tried feeding their sample bags to my dogs and they've always loved it. Their kibble reminds me of like black potato chips, you know the ones you dip in salsa or something..?
