Hi it's neek again. Just one question. I live in Australia and over here AMERICAN pitbull terriers are considered the best pit to own, although I've seen alot of AUSSIE or NORMAL pitbulls here I was wondering what is the difference? Alot of so-called normal pits have American bloodlines, so I'm confused. 80% of pits over here are called American but isn't that alot of dogs to be shipped from America to Australia? Wouldn't it cost a fortune? As well the amount of TRUE American pitbulls would have been bred to different pits so they can't all be called TRUE AMERICANS. So I would appreciate any replies, especially ones from Australia. Cheers Oh by the way, The only difference I can tell from Australian and American pits is that American pits have cropped ears. (cropped ears look good) In Australia it is illegal to crop dog's ears. IP: Logged |

Pit Bulls are American. There is no such thing as Australian Pit bulls. They are all American Pit Bull Terriers. No matter where they are bred. Unless you guys are mixing them with a different breed Sam IP: Logged |

Thanks for clearing that up. So all pitbulls originate from America? we have all colours here in Australia although I am having trouble locating a breeder over here who breeds BLUE pits and I am sad to say that I have never seen one in real life. I've seen loads on websites in America and they are beautiful animals. If anyone out there owns a blue pit I'd be interested to hear from them about their dog. Thanx IP: Logged |

Okay- here you are-- Pit Bull's were originated in England. They were brought into America around the 1870's were they got their name. Before that they were know as "Nanny Dogs", "Half and halfs" and other weird names. A Pit Bull is really a mix of several different dogs which through out time became it's own thing. The only Pit Bull is an American Pit Bull Terrier, there are no Austrailian or normal Pit's, that is all that there is. just plain old American's.. lol. The first Pit Bull came to the US with a Boston-Irish man. Bull baiting had been made illegal in england in 1835, so they changed it to dog vs. dog fighting. A little FYI-- the blue color is not originally a Pit Bull color. The blue is actually a color that was inherited from the close cousin, the American Staffordshire Terrier. Somewhere along the lines the two were crossed over and blue was introduced to Pit Bull's, which has been a big hit. Don't let any one fool you by saying that a blue are a special or rare because they aren't. It would be like saying people with grey eyes are rare and special- it is all just a matter of genetics and how it all falls together. Blue is nothing special- in my book they rank LOWER than an original brindle or white or black or buckskin, etc.. But then again in my opinion color is invalid and not anythign important to me. The dog could be see thru and I wouldn't care as long as it had a good temperment/personality. Angie IP: Logged |

I would guess that maybe the "american pit bulls" are dogs imported from the US, or are possibly dogs registered as APBTs. Then the "aussie pit bulls" may either be dogs from aussie'inized lines, like hog hunting lines, etc, or just owned/bred by people who wanted their dogs to be "aussie", not "american" . "Normal" may just mean that they are scatterbred (of no particular line or "type" of breeding), and not bred for any particular purpose or reason. I think that "true american" is probably referring to dogs that are registered as American Pit Bull Terriers, rather than just being called "pit bulls" or "pit bull terriers". The blue color was more prevelent in AmStaff lines for a while, BUT you have to remember that the AmStaff was derived from the APBT (they actually took dogs that were registered as APBTs and registered them as AmStaffs as well). Soooo... if the color existed in the AmStaff, it also existed(s) in the APBT. The blue color has always existed in both AmStaffs and APBTs, just never showed up until later. Be careful in searching for a blue dog. With irresponsible people breeding so excessively for the color, they are bringing to the surface TONS of health and temperament problems. Make sure you go to a breeder who breeds for stable and healthy dogs first, and happens to have blue dogs. IP: Logged |

Thanks for lowdown on Blue pitties from both Maine and Goob. There is some very valid points. I am not in the market for a blue pit at the moment as I already have two pits that keep me more than busy, but I just want to have my options open and check out pit colours. (My two dogs are both brindle and they are gorgeous) Oh yeah, In Australia the majority of pits ARE used for sport in wild pig hunting so good work Goob!! IP: Logged |
