i know this is a "dumb" question, but what is a barf diet? i know it consists of feeding your dogs raw meat, but i know that there is more to it then that. also are certain meats better or worse for dogs? (chiken, ground beef, pork, tuna, etc..) and if i feed my dog too much meat will she have stomach problems? bc we used to have a lab mix named marley and we fed him a bunch of steak that was left over and it gave him the squirts really bad for like 3 days. my carpet will never look the same again.

Also stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food.

I recommend looking through some websites and purchasing some books on the subject *before* attempting to feed this way.

Many dogs, mine included have done well switching cold-turkey from kibble to raw with no ill effects. To help ease the process I would start off slow and feed lean chicken or turkey at first, as not to overload. Then after a while I'd add in some veg or beef. Most dogs would have trouble adjusting at first to richer foods like liver or other organ meat so would avoid those to start. Overloading them with foods they are not used to *can* cause upset.

Meat alone is not enough. Billinghurst recommends 60% RMBs and 40% veg. but this can be varied depending what you are feeding. To put it roughly, it is necessary to add in a combination of veggies, offal - liver, green tripe, kidney, as well as lean ground meats ie beef, chicken or turkey, eggs and supplements.

Raw should not be fed with kibble - this could upset their stomachs (raw & kibble digest at different rates)
