My 9mo old female pit will chew on anything she can get her mouth on. She chews on her dog house for crying out loud! I give her plenty of things to chew on, and she still finds time to chew on things that she is not supposed to. Has anyone else been through this? Do they snap out of it eventually? Thanks

at what age did you get her?

i got my bully at 7 weeks, and he too chews on everything. but i've broke him from that. i just give him a stern NO, and a light spank. he usually stops.

if he's being stubborn, i'll put him in his crate till he's quiet. he knows what he did wrong.

now all he chews on are his toys i give him. every now and then he'll get something else, but as soon as he notices me looking at him he stops... sometimes...

treat your bully like you would a child. punish them for what they are doing wrong. talk to them.

you're bully is almost full grown, so i dont know how hard it will be to break her now.

I had a female Shepherd/Dobie mix who I got at nine months of age. She chewed everything. Her dog house, trees, tires, stairs, window sills, shoes, blankets, hoses, anything she thought looked good, she chewed. She'd nibble on my fingers and everything. I do not know if she was just a bored chewer or nervous chewer or what it was but I would say "No Kace!" (She came from an abusive situation- so I had to be gentle and soft spoken with her) And I would give her a kong or bone to chew at. She learned after a while that when she needed to chew, she'd come sit at my feet and cry. So we kept lots of chew treats around for her. She'd steal the other dogs and even from the puppies she had to chew. They would feed on her and she'd chew away. She had puppies at nine months old. I got her two weeks before she had them and the vet did not want to perform an aboortion that far into things. Anyhow, everything went well. She made it fine, had lots of suport standing by, vets on call, everything. She done well until they turned three weeks old and she got mastitis and I got to play mommy. She wouldn't even lay with them. My male dog, Duke, lab would lay with them all hours of the day/night and wouldn't let anyone around them or near that room as well as other dogs.. Those were his babies.. He was their Mr. Mom, it was adorable. He ven gave up on his twice a day walk, he'd run out side to pee (sometimes even pee in the house which wasn't normal) just to be there with those babies. Strang eof a male dog. lol. But try keeping chew treats around and enforcing the "No!" and give them a chew treat. The dog after a while will realize that there are and aren't certain things he/she can chew on.

I have 2 pitbulls that love to chew. My GF encourages them by giving them treats when they do bad things. They are so spoiled that sometimes I think they are beyond trainable. What should I do?

Puppies are pups and should not be punished for doing what comes naturally. When pups are teething, lonely, bored - understimulated or unexercised, chewing is their way of alleviating some of that boredom.

Instead of negative methods redirect his behavior by giving him the correct things to chew on. Reward appropriate and good behavior only. For the one who has the dog house is this dog being left outdoors alone in her dog house for long periods? You may leave her chew toys but unless you are rewarding her for using her toys then as far as she is concerned she her dog house is just another chew toy. Puppies left alone in a yard do not play by themselves. Only punish when you catch them in the act otherwise they have no idea. One way to stop destructive behavior is by using a crate, or xpens and confining pup to a puppy proofed room or area when you can not be there to supervise your dog.

Remember a tired pup is a good pup plently of physical exercise will change a dogs behavior dramatically.

My pit puppy is now 3 months, and he still thinks that WE are chew toys. I have heard that their teeth are not even fully mature until 6 months. Your dog seems to still be in the puppy stage. Make sure he/she has plenty of rawhide bones and the sort. Toys right now are just a playful thing, and aren't really associated with actual chewing. Bones may help keep him/her satisfied and resist the urge to chew elsewhere. Good Luck
