Good Morning Board:
My name is Susan.
I am new to this board.
I came upon it surfing for positive information on Pitbulls.
I only joined a few days ago and so far, I have gotten some great web links from other people who have posted on this message board.
My first Pitbull Jasmine I had gotten from a breeder. She was the love of my life. She was so intelligent, SMART, warm and loving. She was everything you could ever want out of an animal and yet so much more. My son took her home from his friends house one day. She was the runt of the litter. He asked me if he could keep her? I asked him what type of dog she was and he said he did not know. So, him and I went over to the breeders home and I spoke with her. Jasmine was an American Staffordshire Terrier. Reluctantly, I agreed to keep her. She ended up being a wonderful companion!!!! Our whole family adored her.
Unfortunately, she passed away two years ago at the tender young age of 3 1/2 due to complications of Lyme Disease. The name of her disease was "GLOMERULONEPHRITIS" it attacks the kidneys. After she passed, I decided not to go back to a breeder due the the fact that through research I found out that over 80% of the dogs in shelters across America are pit bulls. I knew I could not help Jasmine any longer but decided that there were many other great dogs in desperate need of homes.
I am now the proud owner of POUND PITBULLS!!!!! one American Staffordshire Terrier, and two Pit mixes. I am also involved in animal rescue; two of my dogs were rescued from local shelters (my Am Staff was going to be euthanized the following day after I had pulled him) He had spent 6 long months in the shelter. My other girl Ginger was in a local shelter for 7 months. She was only 10 months old when I got her. Katie my last pitty girl I rescued from a local park. She was dumped and left for dead. She was dehydrated, emaciated, and full of approximately 100 ticks on her small body. She truly was deserving of her new family.
I am extremely happy helping other pits in need. As you all know, it is a misunderstood breed and hard to place in good homes. The pound dogs are SO GRATEFUL!!!
My husband and I take our dogs to "Just for Pits" dog training classes. They are outdoor classes held in our area for "Bully Breeds." Many are shelter dogs that have not been properly socialized. That is the downfall of adopting shelter pits. Most have had loser owners who have done absolutely NOTHING to train and enhance their dogs knowledge. You have to be willing to pick up the pieces where the original owners left off. Sometimes it takes a great amount of patience but well worth the results!!!!!!! We use basic obedience methods. We highly praise and reward!!! My husband and also get to meet other wonderful pitbull owners and our dogs learn to socialize in a proper setting.
Well, that's about all for now on my introduction!
I am looking forward to meeting some great pitty people on this board.
Have a nice day everyone.
Hoping to talk soon.
