I need help. problem 1. I have a 4 year pit that smells so bad. I give her a bath atleast once a month but it doesnt seem to help. She has my whole house smelling like wet dog all the time, and dont let her go out side after a bath, its like she never had one (and I watcher her to make sure she isnt rolling around on the ground). problem 2 Has anyone had any luck with keeping a hard headed dog off the furniture? She get disciplinded evey day but she still get on the furniture while im out. When we go to work our living room looks like an obstacle course with chairs and clothes baskets on the couch, and the way my furniture smells is just sick. Does anyone have any suggestions before my wife tries to get rid of my dog? Thanks

Have you taken your dog to the vet? An infection of some sort ie - of the mouth could be causing a foul odor or a perhaps an anal gland problem? Please take her to the vet for a check up. IP: Logged |

Its not her breath that smells its her whole body, but do you think that could still be the cause of the smell? IP: Logged |

Like Jas said.. get your dog to the vet.. It could be a number of reasons.. some dogs have skin disorders as they get older, mouth infections, anal sac issues, it can be ear infections, all of these things would cause your dog to smell regardless of how often you washed it. Look into his/her ears for lots of wax (black-brown color) funny smells coming from all these areas, either way if you do not smell anything, take the dog to the vet anyhow. Does your dog go outside unattended.?? Mine had an issue with rolling in other dogs feces and dead animals. As far as the furniture problem, try sour apple spray. Most dogs hate the smell as well as taste (if it is chewing as well) and will not bother going around it. You can get a spray that is a bit more expensive-- Stay Off! is the name but I do not find it as affective. Sour apple spray has worked charms in the past for me.. Good luck.. let us know what the vet says!! IP: Logged |

You can find it just about anywhere really.. Pet Smart, Petco, Pet Express any of the online pet stores, any petstore would carry it.. Just ask them.. Or tell them your situation and they would maybe have something that works the same. I know some dogs will not react to sour apple. Like Saige and Jekkyl my two Pitbull's.. they love to eat sour apples so I don't even try it in fear that they lick the color off of the furniture..lol. However, there are other things. They have all kinds of training aides to help with this issue, just ask someone at your pet store and they will tell you what is most commonly bought and most effective. Good luck! IP: Logged |
