The other day me and Goo went with my mom to Petsmart, and we just waited in the car while she went in. It was pretty warm, so I had the window down, and Goo was peeking out at all the activity. Shortly after my mom left, a guy got out of a car with a pit bull (not very big, so I figured it was a pup) and walked into the store. After about 10 minutes, he came back out and stood at the front of the store. Another two people were walking up to the store, and stopped to talk to him. They must have asked him something about his color (light brindle) or breeding, because I heard the dog's owner saying "well, his mother was a white rednose, and his father was a brindle, so that's how he got to be a light brindle, her white lightened the brindle". The other people walked into the store, and shortly after, my mom came out. She stopped to pet the dog (Goo was NOT happy ) then came over and got in our car. She started talking about the dog, and how friendly he was. then she said he wanted to breed him, and mentioned that two people had said just while he was at the store that they wanted pups (I'm guessing the two he had been talking to). The dog was only 5 months old, and was by no means "breeding quality" (he wasn't built particularly well, but at least he did seem friendly), yet his owner is already making plans to stud him out!? And that kind of stuff is typical of the pit bull owners around here IP: Logged |

Goob, this is a huge problem where I live as well and is actually how I got my dog. People just don't get it. They think they can make money from breeding...but the truth is that one looses money when breeding properly as the cost of vet trips for mom and shots for puppies etc...cost more than what one could ever make from the dogs born. Too bad you didn't get the chance to talk with the guy..maybe you will bump into him a little later....then grab the opportunity to educate him on how many are at the shelters awaiting euthenization because people breed un knowingly...such as he would be doing. Breeding need to be left to people who know what they are doing. IP: Logged |

Goob, We have people like that here as well..People like that really get to me,because they make it hard on the breed. Shmoopie, I agree with you. There is not alot of money in breeding.People are crazy if they think there is.I have to work 2 job and my husband has a job.Don't get me wrong we do make money, but most of it goes back to the dogs.
