Well you said it right there when you said "some" dogs still have basic instinct. I am not denying that fact, my point (or at least one of my points) is that there have been breeders out there for quite a while who have been breeding for gentleness. And as for the dogs base temperment, well any dog could be born mad at the world i had a Chi Zu that would try and rip you to peices if you went near my mom and she didnt know you. We never trained her to do that. It was just lack of socialization on our part. And through my family's and my own experiences with dogs of all different breeds the only truely "stable" dogs i have ever seen were the mixed breeds. So while everybody has somthing bad to say about APBT what about the Rotweiler everyone hated for so long. Cant we use that as an example of bad judgement by humans. Way back when they were the hated breed and APBT were even on WWII posters representing the USA. Now that they relized that all Rotweilers weren't "agressive" they needed a new breed to pick on. I have Pits of all temperments from completly serene to off the walls hyper and not one angry snip, bite, growl, or lunge at any creature not even my provoking little symese. So untill you can come to my house and prove to me that my dogs are are agressive, mean, or violent, and they will hurt somthing or someone no matter what i do or how i train them, well then stop saying that "pitt Bulls" are all mean and agressive. Some, yes no doubt in my mind but that goes for any animal, any animal can be agressive toward people or other animals. Just because they are built like brick sh!t houses dosent mean that they are all mentally unstable, with the constant urge to fight another dog. They are being bred away from that temperment more and more every generation.

Sure, there are breeders out there breeding for completely non-aggressive dogs (both human and dog aggression), but it takes more than a few decades of breeding away fro ma fairly set trait (dog aggression) to undo it. The fact remains that the majority of pit bulls will show some dog aggression at some point in their life. You've been lucky that your dogs are completely non-reactive to other animals.... hope your luck holds out, if not, you're in for a big surprise. Also, in the pit bull breeds, unstable is a dog that will bite a person without serious provocation.... dog aggressive dogs are considered acceptable, and most are completely stable. You're completely right that any dog can be aggressive to other animals, but pit bulls do have a higher likelyhood(sp?) of being animal aggressive. Just because your dogs aren't that way doesn't mean that that's typical of the breed.

Doit,
How old is your pit?I also have been luck and none most of my dogs do not have any aggression to other animals. The reason I asked how old your pit was is because pitbull mature slower than most dogs.Therefor,if you dog is young and has not showed any aggression yet. There is a strong possiblity that it might after around 3 years of age.I am NOT saying that it WILL,but there is a good chance.
Like I said I have been very lucky with my dogs as well...Only 2 out of nine have dog aggression issues. It's just something to think about.
