Well even still today every attak on some body by a Pitt Bull look alike is classified as a pit bull attack. The Pit Bull is not a specific type of dog it is a generalazation. Therefore the poor American Pitt Bull Terrier has to carry all the blame. I am not denying that some do attack, but then again have you ever met a Chiwawa. Ok so A chiwawa might not tear your arm of but my point is this if not trained to do other wise most dogs will bite when they are uncomfortable or antagonized. As far as bite victims positively identifying their attackers, well under the "pitt bull look alikes" we have the Bandog, Boxers, American Bulldog, Stafforshire Bull Terrier, Black Mouth Cur, American Staffordshire Terrier, the Presa, Bull Mastiff, and Coutnless others including mix breeds. Now you if you are thinking that some of these dogs look hardly anything like an APBT then go throw sticks at your neighbors American Bulldog and then let me know what it would look like if you were 3 feet tall. The American Pitt Bull Terrier in my opinion is a faithfull, loyal, loving, peacefull dog. Like with any other breed it is mostly in how the dog is brought up. AMPT are hardwired to be hyper and active and most people interpret that as being aggressive. The massive bark that these animals create is also intimadating to the average person. People, this is how dogs c ommunicate weather they are excited hungry have to go to the bathroom or whatever. Now i am not saying go up and pet a barking AMPBT or any other dog for that matter, just look beyond so called bite statistics, their hyper disposition, and massive bark and you will find like in most any breed they are truely great dogs, and yes in my opinion great family dogs. My AMPBT "Kako" is curled up sleeping with my Blue Point "Spazzy" (thats a cat for the purly dog people)on my couch right now. Him and His brothers and sisters ("Buca" "Patch" "Nova" "Jewel" and "Pretty Girl") are equally gentle with my 2 year old nephew and the 20 other toddlers that were at little Rickies birthday party. So as far as vicious guard/attack dogs better buy a German Sheperd, you want a happy uplifting dog that will do any thing to please you the AMERICAN PITT BULL TERRIER is like i said in my opinion a great dog!!!!! Hi and welcome to the board. You make a great point when you say Pit Bull is a general term used by the media to decribe a dog attack...so far I've seen every type of breed be called a "Pit Bull"...there have been story after story where the reporter uses "Pit Bull Attack" when infact the truth is it was a mixed rotweiler breed or maybe a chiwawa or maybe a band dog or a bull mastiff...so Pit Bull really means all breeds. Why would so many famous people own the breed if this breed is so evil and aggressive? Why would there be so many people working together to educate the people stuck in their ways? At a training calss, one client had a dalmation....this dog jumped up on her to get her attention....her words exactly...."can you help me train the aggression out of this dog...I can't stand it anymore" All that because the dog jumped up on her...please...aggressive nothing but further from the truth with that dog...just a stupid owner.....goes to show what some people call "aggressive" duh IP: Logged |
