Sorry there's so many pics here, I got a bit carried away... it may load a little slow.

Trained on "bait"

Never has a comfy place to sleep

No toys or suitable "entertainment"

Never allowed to have fun like a "normal" dog

Obviously starved and malnourished

Isolated from other pets

And children

Hey Goob,

I love your humor...poor gal she's so deprived...

Incredible pictures. The pic with the kids is awsome...Duke does the same thing..sits there with his ears back and a HUGE bullie smile...they must like the lil hands that are so gentle...very cute.

How'd you train for the water though...I can't even get Duke 10 feet close to the water...he just wants to get away?

Thanks

Shmoopie, we live on the water, so she's been around it now for nine years, but until last year, wouldn't go "in" it. She would go out in the boat, or lounge on the pier, but didn't want to go near the water itself. One day last summer it was unbearably hot out, and we were fooling around in the backyard, so rather than mist her with the hose, I just wandered in on the boat ramp (it's a nice gradual incline), and called her along behind me. She followed me in until the water was up to her belly, then ran back out. I splashed all around, like I was having a great time without her, and she got upset, running back in and out again. She had on a long lead, but I never pulled on it (she would have started fighting me and never came in). Before long, she'd charge in up to her belly, and bark and bite at the water. Now she'll go in as far as she can touch, then if she loses her footing, will panic, go back to solid ground, then charge in and bite at the water again (guess she's letting it know what she thinks about that ). She doesn't like swimming, but she'll go in far enough to cool off, and that's good enough for us . Of course, I also found out last summer that she CAN swim, just doesn't like to. We let her go with us to the beach, where we got out to clean off the boat. She carried on and barked for a while, then finally tucked her tail and dove in (she had on a life jacket because I honestly didn't think she could swim, lol). Once she hit the water, she panicked and swam over to me (I was already heading for her), climbed up me, and "perched" on my head. It took a few minutes for me to pry her off, and then I kinda "pointed" her back in the direction of the boat and let her go, thinking she's go back. She promptly turned around and climbed me again. So I had to go back and "unload", then as soon as I moved away, she hopped back in and started following me again. Sooo... unless we figure out some way to either keep her on the boat, or to keep her from climbing people who are in the water, she's not going to be going on too many beach trips this year :rolleyes

Anyway, the only advice I can give for getting a dog to go in the water is to go someplace where there's a gradual slope, not a sharp dropoff. Then go slowly and maek sure it's fun, never try to "force" them in, as this will only make them hate the water more.

Nice pics goob,

I used a tennis ball/kong on a rope, like goob said, on a gradual slope, I threw it in the shallow water, and gradually started throwing deeper and deeper, over the course of the whole summer. I did it at trout lake, I am sure you know where that is shmoopie=)
But I did this about 7 years ago when it was ok for me and 2 pits to be there without being mobbed by idiots. My dogs were not so uptight around other dogs at the time which also which helped ALOT haha.

They also like to cool off in a kiddie pool I bought for like 20 bucks at toys r us.

I use it as a big dog bed during the winter, filled with pillows and comforters.
Keeps all the hair and stuff in one place lol. Im lazy and dont vacuum much.

Goob...ahhhh...it looked like she was a natural..Duke's mom LOVES the water...so thought maybe it was a natural thing for your baby. Next time were out camping I will try playing in the water to try and cox him in...last time we went camping with the family and when he saw the kids playing in the water he went in up to the middle of his leg, but wouldn't go any further...I'll have to take him around water more...I just don't like giving a bath after lol

Russ, love the pic's....your dogs look very spoiled and soooo kissable..oooohhh
So how many are yours? There were 4 in the truck...all your babies? I'm thinking of adopting a rescue...know of any female bullies needing a home?

Hi shmoopie,

They are all from the same parents, 2 seperate litters.

My 2 are in the middle. The pic is prolly 4-5 years ago =)

Kiesha on the right is Thors immediate sister, and Sasha on the left is Loki's

I have lost contact with them =(
