They're an open registry, meaning they register any dog that they think LOOKS like it is of that particular breed, without any proof that it is in fact of that breed. Many people use such registries when they have unpapered (or not purebred) dogs, but want to get more money for their "papered" pups.

Actually, the part about open registries in my last post isn't right. An open registry is just where they're still accepting dogs for registration that did not have ancestors registered with that registry. Like (just an example, and hopefully it'll never happen) if the AKC were to accept American Bulldogs as a breed, then they would have an open registry on them, while they registered dogs that could be the foundation stock for future AKC American Bulldogs. What the NAPDR is doing though, is registering dogs based on as little as pictures of them, and that is not only innacurate, but IMO, deceptive too, because people buy the pups thinking they are getting a "purebred" dog, when there is sometimes no proof that the dog is in fact purebred. Also, some breeders register their dogs with these types of registries simply because they CAN'T register them with others... either because they (the breeder) has been banned, or because their dogs are not what they SAY they are. It might (especially if you're thinking of breeding her) be a good idea to trace back in her ped to see if she goes back to registered dogs, or if maybe there was a "mishap" somewhere along the lines. I just wanted to fix my mistake in the last post, because the two things are NOT the same.
