I can see nobody has much to say these days. I ended up going downtown the other night with some friends and as we were walking out of a restaurant there was a homless person laying down with their dog laying on a cardboard box. One thing I did notice was this persons dog was a purebred very awsome looking Doberman....how is it possible someone like this has this dog? The dog was of such great temperment.....I felt sorrier for the dog....couldn't have cared less about the jerk that after I handed five bucks to says to me....hey gotta blank check. I almost walked away with his dog...the dog was lovin me IP: Logged |

You know what, today I saw the same type of pppl you described, with a beautiful rot pup, it was tied up to a sign post with a crappy beat up yellow rope. The rope was long enough that if the dog stepped of the curb, it would get hit by a car. I told them that from my car window and they gave me the finger. Lose/Lose situation. I didnt pursue it further. Then later, further downtown, on hastings, I say even worse type ppl with a nice 40lb pit and a rotty. Whats up with these homeless ppl having dogs when they cant even feed themselves? I wonder if the dogs were just strays and got adopted by them? Well I have no problems with homeless ppl owning dogs, as long as they love them, feed them and trea them with care and respect. Its just a funny coincidence we both saw it the same day. I agree Russ....as long as the dog is being fed and loved...properly taken care of, then I don't have a problem with it; however, the Dobi I saw was soooo skinny....my heart is broken. I sure hope he used the money I gave him to feed himself and the dog, but knowing how many drug adicts there are in this city...I highly doubt it. I think these homless people have the dogs to get sympathy from ppl like me who have a soft heart for animals....they use them as bait (that's just my opinion) [This message has been edited by shmoopie (edited 02-27-2003).] IP: Logged |

I agree,as long as they feed and love their dogs I do not have a problem with it.No body wants to be alone, and i would rather see a homeless person trying to take care of their dog then a stupid jerk fighting his dog. IP: Logged |

After seeing the link on the dog board directed to BYB...I would rather see the dog with these people then in that situation at the pound....that broke my heart and has ruined the rest of my day....tears keep dropping from my eye balls...ahhhh make it stop! i am a senior nursing student at a four year university and i have to go to a homeless shelter every week for a clinical.. by going there i have learned that many homeless people do have dogs, for companionship most probably.. however, i learned that 99.9% of homeless people with dogs starve themselves so that their dog is fed.. also sadly enough almost no shelters allow dogs so the homeless people prefer to stay on the street with their dogs instead of seeking shelter.. the shelter i go to for my clinical had a huge donation to build a kennel for dogs.. they now have built a kennel so that the homeless people can bring their dogs.. i'm just saying maybe we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, especially with the rate of homelessness today (especially in america with this economy we have doctors and lawyers at the shelter i go to)..
