I have 5 Pitbulls, a Pomeranian, a Yorkie (that weighs 2 lbs.), a Himalayan kitty, and a wild rabbit that I hand raised. This does not include my 2 children who are 12 and 8. My Pitbulls are my children as well. All of my pets get along wonderfully! In fact, my Yorkie, Speck, thinks he rules the house. If one of the PitBulls doesn't follow directions; Speck will show the big dogs who the "big dog" really is in my house. I have never even thought about worrying about my children and the dogs. I hate the bad rap that the breed has gotten. Unfortunately, when pitbulls attack, the dog's story is never told. What type of a life did this dog have? Who were his owners? How often was her played with? talked to? loved? Just because a pitbull is a larger dog, does not mean that is needs or deserves to receive less love and affection. Pitbull are like a sponge soaking up attention, love, and affection. Raising a Pitbull is very much like raising a child. The puppy grows up to "model" its owners actions. If the owners are loving, caring, and treat their Pitbull as a member of the family, the dog is most likely to be a well behaved, loving animal. But place them in a home where they observe violence or do not receive the attention that they deserve, and you may have a problem growing. Just remember... this is not only true about Pitbulls.... it is true of any breed of dog. Remember we have always said that they are man's best friend! Our "pets" strive to make their human owner happy. They want to make their owner proud. Just as any child...... Just remember.... our pets deserve love, kindness and respect from their families... they are not "just a pet"; they are, and should be, recognized as a member of the family. IP: Logged |

I liked the story of your little Yorkie...cute! I always joke that little dogs act bigger than what they are due to an inferiority complex resulting from them being so little! Had a patient who had a silver and tan one, what a gorgeous baby. A real lap dog. Big ones, little ones, they're all lovable and would give their lives for their owner. How many times do we read in the news how an animal, has awakened the family in a fire, or a dog barked or protected it's owner. God bless. IP: Logged |

""Just remember.... our pets deserve love, kindness and respect from their families... they are not "just a pet"; they are, and should be, recognized as a member of the family. "" Well said, pitbulls that are raised properly, lovingly and responsibly, IMO are the best dogs out there. Mine are like sponges too, just sucking up all the love they get =) Russ IP: Logged |
