ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I WAS GETTING READY TO TAKE MY SHOW PITBULL FOR OUR AFTERNOON RUN.AS I WAS WALKING AROUND THE SIDE OF MY HOUSE TO MAKE SURE THE BACK GATE WAS LOCK,THERE WAS A MAN STANDING THERE.I ASKED HIM WHAT HE WAS DOING.HE DID NOT ANSWER ME,INSTED HE TRIED TO TAKE MY DOGS LEASH OUT OF MY HAND.WHEN HE GOT ABOUT A FOOT FROM ME MY DOG LUNGED FORWARD AT HIM...MY DOG (JESUS)NEVER TRIED TO BITE OR GROWLE..HE JUST LET HIM KNOW REAL FAST THAT HE WAS TO CLOSE TO ME.THE GUY JUMPED BACK AND JUST LOOKED AT US LIKE WE WERE CRAZY.JESUS JUST BACKED UP UNTIL HIS BACK LEGS WERE AGINST MINE AND HE KEEP IS BODY BETWEEN ME AND THIS MAN.I TOLD THEM MAN IF HE DID NOT LEAVE I WAS GOING TO CALL THE POLICE.HE JUST STOOD THERE FOR A MINUTE,THEN I GAVE MY DOG A COMMAND TO BARK AND THE GUY TOOK OFF RUNNING DOWN THE STREET.
I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT IF WOULD NOT HAVE HAD MY DOG WITH ME I DON'T KNOW WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED.I THANK GOD EVERY DAY FOR GIVING ME SUCH WONDERFUL PETS.PITBULLS ARE TRUELY AMAZING ANIMALS.THEY HAVE THE HEART OF A LION AND THE SPIRIT OF AN ANGEL.GOD PUT THESE DOGS HERE FOR A REASON...AND I BELEIVE THAT REASON IS TO PROTECT AND LOVE THEIR FAMILY...AND NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS I WILL ALWAYS BELEIVE IT.

Hi Princess,

I am glad your dog was there, who knows whats up with some people these days.

When we go out together, me, my wife and the 2 dogs, Thor and Loki are like normal dogs, they sleep in the van or just chill out. When my wife goes out byherself, she always takes Thor, he jumps up in the passenger seat and punches his time card in. He is so protective of her if I am not around. He won't let anyone near her unless she greets them first. I never taught him to do that. He just knows he should watch over her. I am glad he knows his job =)

What erks me is, say someone broke into a house with dogs, the burglars were not timid, they tried to pen the dogs or hit them, so the dogs fought back/defended their territory, the burglars got injured by the dogs, then sue the dog owners for injuries. Egad what a joke, well it happens up here in Canada.

(Just a question about this scenario, not pertaining to you)
If this scenario had turned for the worse, what would happen if *pitbull* had attacked that man? Would he have been arrested or would *pitbull*been contained for being a dangerous dog? Would the dog be stereotyped? If it was contained, would the same happen if the dog was a Jack Russell Terrier?
I'm not being ignorant, I honestly don't know the laws in your state.

Criminals have more rights than they should.
Politics are funny and ironic sometimes.

I should add, humans who catch criminals and beat them can and are charged too.

Russ,
to answer your question, the "pitbull"would most likely be put down..it veries from case to case i beleive...i can tell you this, the cops would have a hell of a time taking any of my dogs away from me...lol..
i help out the police around here with some of the trainning of their dogs.most of them know all my pits...all of this would be put into consideration...
i hope that none of my dogs will ever bite anyone...you can never be 100% sure that any dog will never bite.i breed only good tempered dogs of the best quality.i can honestly say i know were every puppy i have ever sold is...(all my sale go into my computer)and i have never had any of my dogs bite.

Princess, I got your email this morning, thanks. You were very lucky you had your dog with you TG. Oh and by the way, tonight I had decided to look through some old pictures of my mom, I had put everything away 5 yrs ago when we lost her. And low and behold a picture of her holding a dog ( a pit ) kinda looks like russ's dog with the spot over the eye. I am going to try to make a scanned pic them, and put it up on the forum here. On the back of the photo it said she was 10 yrs old.

Hi Princess,

About 16 years ago I caught 2 men Breaking and entering into my Townhouse. I caught 1 and beat the crap out of him until he said "ok I give up" The other guy broke his tailbone jumping to the next building. They found him in the hospital.

He pressed charges against me, luckily he was a con on parole and the judge dismissed the charges and commended me instead LOL.

I was pretty scared and disapointed in the system until that time.

It was after this that I got my 1st dog, a GSD.

If my dogs ever hurt someone because they were defending their family, the Posted byities would never find my dogs either.

LOL, I take my dogs out with me at night nowadays unless they have to sit in the van for hours. I can't bear to leave them at home to protect my house, the dogs are more important to me than material objects that can be replaced by insurance.

Russ,
I am sorry that all that happened to you.Good thing the Judge was a good guy.I try to take my dogs with me every where I go,but sometimes it is impossible.I have 10 pitbulls so I have to rotate them out, because there is no way I can take all of them at the same time.
I hope you did not misunderstand what I said.My dogs are family pets not "Guard Dogs".I have just trained my oldest male to respond to more commands. These dog do not make good guard dog,but are great family protecters..Of course you know this as well as I do...

Doc,
The picture of your Mom and a Pit Bull reminded me of a story.

We had visiting day at a local nursing home. We took horses, cats, and dogs. The people really enjoy petting the animals.

I had my Pit Bull, and several of these older people rushed up and said they had one of these dogs, when they were growing up. He was the most popular pet there.

They didn't know he was called a Pit Bull. They just called him a Bulldog. It seems this was one of the favorite dogs, back then.
