There wasnt a place to post this in the Pit forum, maybe you can move it over when you have time.
~~~~~~~~~~Story # 1~~~~~~~~~~
Two off-duty police officers were forced to shoot and kill a pit bull Friday after it and another pit bull attacked a couple's dog and one of the officers' wife, Suffolk County Police said.
The incident began shortly after 9 a.m. when Portia and Peter Wells, of Mastic Beach, were walking their dog Pepper along Locust Drive. As they passed a house at 51 Grove Road, two pit bulls jumped over the fence and went after Pepper, police said.
As the couple fought to separate the dogs, two neighbors, off-duty police officers Ed Foglia, of the New York Police Department, and Thomas Burroughs, a New York State Police trooper, tried to separate the dogs with gardening tools, police said.
One of the pit bulls then split off from the attack and began attacking Burroughs' wife who was in the family car. The dog jumped through the window of the car and the woman had to fight it off using a baby seat. She was then able to get out of the car and lock the dog inside.
The other pit bull then charged at the two officers who both shot and killed it, police said.
Officers from Brookhaven Animal Control responded, and with much struggle, removed the second pit bull from the car and took it to the pound.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Story # 2~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A pit bull was shot dead on Long Island after it attacked three young children.

The children were treated Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Suffolk County police say 10-year-old Celida McCloud and two eight-year-olds, Shanaqua Newkirk and Mikal Heath, were each bitten by the pit bull. They had unlocked its cage to feed the dog.

Police emergency service officers were called and were forced to shoot the pit bull.

The dog had been abandoned and was taken in last week by Teesha Spears. She was caring for the dog, who was caged, in her backyard at 83 State Street in Wyandanch.

~~~~~~~~~~~Story # 3~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Man Bites Dog
Man Bites Pit Bull Who Was Attacking His Dog
A Long Island man bit a pit bull that was attacking his pet Siberian husky and his action may have saved his dog's life, police said.
Richard Robbins, 44, said he was walking his three dogs Saturday morning when three pit bulls dashed from their owner's side and one attacked his husky, Gina Marie.
Robbins sank his teeth into the attacking pit bull's head, leaving marks. He suffered multiple puncture wounds in the attack.
"I wasn't going to watch my dog die," Robbins told the Daily News. "I bit right into the top of his head."
Suffolk County Police Lt. Kenneth Fasano said Gina Maria "would have been severely injured or even killed" without Robbins' intervention.
The pit bulls' owner faces charges of assault and reckless endangerment.
My cousin was severely attacked by a great dane - what are the odds of being attacked by a dog known as the "gentle giant". The dog was put down. Incidently this dog lived with 3 small children and never showed any aggresion towards any of them.
When I was a child we had an extremely aggresive German Shepherd - he would try and kill anyone who entered our house. One day while I was petting him he bit me and with my toddler brother crawling around my parents feared for his safety and tried to re-home the dog. Re-homing him was unsuccessful because this dog wouldnt let anyone near him and he ended up being put down.
These are the only two stories I have to share about life threatening situations with dogs - neither of which were pitbulls.
I guess my point is.......I dont understand why some people insist on posting things about pits like this when there are several loving pit owners on this board that are careful enough to raise and socialize their dogs properly enough to prevent situations like the ones posted above. These responsible pit owners take offense to posts like this which is why I personally feel they are uneccessary. If you have some reason other than trying to offend posters on this board or trying to prove that all pits are bad dogs and should be banned then I apologize for my post.
Nern, above are some attacks by pitbulls, I also posted one that Man attacks a dog. I don't see or for that matter find anything in those posts offensive to others. Ones that own them, take great precaution and take good care of them that post here on this board. If you note on story number 3 the kids let the dog out of the cage. But I bet the ones that were attacked in those stories find it very offensive to the attack in itself. Alot of dogs bite but they do not mame a person, ones that are mamed are the ones that make headlines, and the majority are pitbulls. But other breeds even as small as toys have killed babies..For myself as a family have been through 2 dog attacks, and it wasn't the owners fault nor was it our fault. They attacked out of the blue. Nern, there are also people that have come to this message born that were mamed and disfigured forever, don't know if you saw their posts or not. People that have them that are doing wrong are usually criminals trying to keep law at bay. Even with the banning of pits, the criminals will just turn to another breed and make them mean. Ive done some other research and alot of koala's in Austrailia were killed by the pit. My suggestion is this Nern, if you don't like my posts and you see my name put on your blinders and don't read them. If others feel the same way you do, including Auspet. I will be more than happy to post elsewhere. But I do believe this is a pitforum unless I made a terrible mistake and I have my husbands glasses on and the forum read "Hows the weather"
nern,
You are correct to point it out. This topic already went to the moon and back, twice.
That’s all folks, I’m done with PB. I think that I've made my point re this issue.
Hi Albert,
I will not carry on anymore on this topic between Albert, Doc and myself.
All I want is some thought on the original topic which is pitbulls.
Not politics, attacks or BSL
Russ
Doc, from your post, I am confused??? I don't understand why you continue to bash the APBT breed, but you understand that it is due to lac of proper dog handling that creates these aggression issues.
Are you a veterinarian? Are you a dog trainer? Have you ever met a APBT? Where are all these facts and stories coming from?
Are you searching for facts against or for the APBT?
I was once afraid of the APBT, just like yourself, but came to the realization after a friend purchased a Pit Bull puppy what great and loyal dogs they can turn into and that the media makes them out to be monsters, but that is due to very important information being left out.
It's funny....three houses down there is this little white fluffy thing that charges out of its yard every time someone, walks, runs, bikes by. This dog lunges and grabs the ancle of every person who passes. No one complains about this dog, but when I take my dog for a walk down my street wearing a leash and in a full heel command, I get stared down as if I'm escorting the devil. Tell me.....why is this breed being targated when every little white fluffy thing I see has such a sever aggression problem?..oh let me guess, because it's bite has no worth. But the one time somone does something wrong with their Pit Bull and it's plastered all over the news and Pit Bull banning is going into affect.
I know my APBT would never bite a child that was giving him a hug...as for that white fluffy thing, you can be darn sure it would rip that kids nose right off.
