Hi there,

I am a new member to this forum. I would like to help out and not disrupt any threads with my own ignorance. Thus I would like to know what is the main reason people in Australia own pit bulls? property protection? personal protection? family pet? Dingos/wild dogs? (Im not trying to be ignorant, I just figured it could be a legit reason)

There sure seems to be alot of attacks out there and they sure sound to be owner irresponsibilty related. Do they run free in the streets or through the vast large properties out in the farmlands?

Sorry, I am from Canada and I am not familiar with your countries layout and laws on dogs.

I am trying to find out more so my replies can be based on better knowledge of the origin of the question.

One of the main reasons in Canada for negative pit media is, too many low lifes own them, they get them from other lowlifes that breed them irresponsibly and just give them away to anyone who will take them. Thus the circle starts. It takes more than love and food to properly care for a bull breed.
A 6foot fence is not in the price range of many average people. So financially it cost more to own and care for this breed. This, IMO should be mandatory to own a bull breed.
1.To be able to afford a solid fence
2.The knowledge to understand the drive and motivation of this dog
3.The time to commit to excercise it's mind and body.

Thanks for your time,

Russ

Hello Russ, I don't know what gave you the impression to some degree that everyone that posts here is from aussi, alot of US citizen folk that post here.

As far as blaming the breed, I believe all cases with dog biting is separate and cannot be listed all in the same class..BLAME THE DEED NOT THE BREED? Legislative Laws are going in effect everywhere not just in certain countries. Its not just 1 particular breed, under many of the dangerous dog acts, it basically fits a criteria. I have read some of your other posts and in one of them you wrote if I'm not mistaken you believe the breed should be banned. If you read one of my posts if you scroll back somewhat its on statistics on dog biting, and it might help even though there is a lot of posts on pits, when you have time read through them. But I cannot answer for Australia I am in the US. Maybe Albert on here will be happy to fill you in..

Doc~
