Hello all:

Ummmm, vaccinations...
I need to bring my Bulldog to the Vet today, to recieve his DHLP. Now, around here (i'm sure it may different in other areas) they (the hospital) call the DHLP- the "Distemper/Parvo" shot/vaccine. I know what each of those viruses are (each letter). The question i have is:
... My Bulldog actually needs his DHLP, Bordetella, Corona, & Rabies.
Now, where i'm actually going (because of their V E R Y low prices), their DHLP "combo" vaccine consists of DHLP-"P" & "C". Meaning, Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus [hopfully type 1 & 2], i did'nt ask yet, oops!) Leptospirosis, Parvo, & "Parainfluenza", & "Corona".
Now, the Parainfluenza & Corona vaccines are nothing new to me, but i was just hoping that i could get some "experianced" advise & opinions on getting such a PACKED vaccination shot.
I mean, not only is my Bullies immune syatem going to have to deal w/ the viruses of DHLP, it's also going to have to deal w/ the other two, P & C.
Has anyone given this shot/combo vaccine to their dog(s).
My concern is that i've been reading (i forgot where ) that getting these combo vaccines is'nt really a good thing to do, and go about getting vaccines for our dogs. I'm understanding that our dogs Immune-System will have a harder time being stressed out from battling these "combo" vaccines along w/ the natural world out there. I mean, i'm familiar w/ the DHLP, and have been giving those to my dogs when their due, but now i'm understanding that most hospitals are giving that combo w/ Parainfluenza & Corona.
I was just wondering would that be too much in one shot for my Bulldog???
From my reading, they say that 1 vaccine is pretty stressfull in itself. And that there should be a rest-period between each shot/vaccine. Basically, they recommended that the best way to give vaccinations to your dog is 1 at a time, w/ the 1 month rest-period inbetween. There's alotta shots though if i were to do it this way, right?? I would think this would stress out my dogs Imunne-System even more, from the prolonged shots given in that lengthy amount of time, would'nt you say..?

I'm saying, i'm not too sure about this "new" PACKED combo vaccine, and it might be a way for the hospital(s) to get more money from it's patience's. But if it's safe, which probably it is (otherwise they would'nt be doing it), would you have your dogs recieve their vaccines this way, in this combo vaccine of DHLPPC??

I think i'm gonna go and get it done (i've called 2 different hospitals that don't do it this way, and said it should be legit & safe) and wait 1 month, to get his other Bordatella & Rabies vaccinations. Even though their all pretty much due now. What do you all think about this; how should i go about getting it all done??

Anyone currently done/doing this w/ their dog(s)?? I'd really like to know your opinions.

THANKS SO MUCH

Hey goodboy, How old is your bully? For my pups I use a DHP and then for my adults I use a DHLPP and I dont use corona (its not as prevelant in my area)
Im not too sure how harmful it is to their system. I know whenever you use a modified live virus that it can be harder on their system than a killed virus.
If your bully is a pup than you definately want to do it in a series of vaccinations. That way it gives their bodies the oppurtunity to accept it.
I have always used combo vaccines and so far have not experienced any problems. However that is what all the vets in my area use, so I may be misled.
I think it would be more expensive for your vet to seperate the combo vaccines to single vaccines because each time they charge you an injection fee. Vaxes are actually only bt 2-4 dollars and most vets charge anywhere between 12-15 dollars a pop. Most of that is the injection fee.

Hope I answered some of your questions.
