Does anyone have any suggestions about a jumping puppy? Everytime I leave and come back my Nala greats me at my bedroom door and her first reaction is to jump up on me with her front paws. I dont mind it but my boyfriend does. I dont mind her doing it to me but I do to other people. Should I just constanly so down and no? Just want to check with everyone!

LOL honeybear, mine is "Nala" as well. There are several of us with Nala's on this board now.

Yes, be consistent and keep telling her a word like "off" (I avoid "down" because that means to lie down). Then tell her to sit. Don't give her attention while she is jumping on you - wait until she is sitting and then greet her.

They say this works, but I haven't had much success with my Nala yet.

That seems to have worked well here. Natalie used to jump all over me too. I started ingnoring her and turning my body away from her. Then I would tell her to sit and I would'nt pet her until she did. Now when I get home she sits right down and whines to get my attention instead of jumping.

Well, with the mexican jumping bean you have to wait for the worm inside to die. then no more jumping. LOL With Nala you wait for her worm to die. So to speak, which is really is babiness. And plenty of firm no's. Alot of help that is huh. LOL

There is also a no jump harness that works really well if it is put on correctly.
I would use it during your training periods so that way it is delivering the correction and it dosent associate anything negative with you.
Be careful of very harsh training methods.
When I had gotten Mayday we were in his first obedience class. The trainer used to pick on him alot and use him as the example.
She had walked him over to the door and then got him to jump on her by patting on her stomach and then when he did she bopped him on the head with an empty 2 liter bottle! I just stood there with my jaw dropped.
Ever since Mayday (who is the biggest breed of wimp) is terrified of anything plastic. If I pull soda out of the fridge he freaks and tries to climb behind whoever is sitting down at the time.
If we take the hamster out of the cage and into his ball Mayday (who is a 60 pd pit mix) will literally try to scale the walls to get away from it. You'll find him on the back of the couch trying his hardest to get away!
He never used to do that until the head bopping incident.

I should have, I was just so shocked and stunned that she hit my dog I didnt know what to do!
She was awful, she used to yell during the entire class. I kept thinking they can hear you, we can hear you, the people 4 blocks down can hear you!!!
At the end of the class I told her I would be finding another trainer and that I didnt agree with her methods. I also called her company and complained. I should have called and told them the behaivors that have developed from it but I am done with those people.
I found a wonderful trainer who does in home lessons as well as train for agility and obedience.
We are starting agility next week, Im hoping it will help build his confidence up. Keep your fingers crossed that it will be a hit!
